As you explore the realm of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you’ll encounter a variety of characters, many of whom seem to be in a bind and eager for your assistance, often promising rewards in return. While some of these quests yield valuable results, not every character has your best interests at heart.
Some might trick you into dangerous situations without any warning. If you’re not careful, it can be easy to fall into their traps. Deciding whom to trust becomes a crucial part of the experience, and the fallout from a bad choice may not be evident until it’s too late.
How to Begin the Crooked Trail Quest
Once you reach the second area, Cuanacht, head to the western part of the lower city where you’ll see many workers. Among them, look for a character wearing a red hat named Rowan and talk to him.
Rowan will ask you to retrieve a family heirloom that deserters have taken from him. He’ll send you to a nearby deserter camp for the task.
How to Finish the Crooked Trail Quest
The deserter camp is just south of where you met Rowan, so make your way there. Once you arrive, deal with all the enemies so you can search for the heirloom without hinderance.
After defeating the enemies, you’ll discover that there is no family heirloom—it’s actually a trap.
Next, head to the north side of the camp, where you’ll find a tent. Behind it, you can find a letter that reveals the truth about Rowan.
Return to Rowan and confront him about what you’ve learned. He’ll initially deny everything, but eventually, he’ll come clean about his actions. At this point, the quest will conclude, but Rowan will now be considered an enemy.
You have the option to spare him, but if you choose to engage him, you can take his red hat as a reward.
