While doing Side Missions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC, if you visit the Justice Dojo, you might find Side Mission 172: Sawk vs. Throh. This task requires you to use one of these Pokémon. You can start the mission right after finishing Main Mission 9, but you’ll need to catch either Sawk or Throh to actually complete it.
During the mission, you’ll choose a side, so you don’t need both Pokémon. Usually, Sawk and Throh appear together in the same Hyperspace Wild Zones, so if you find one, the other is likely nearby. That means you can pick which Pokémon to support for the mission.
How to Find Sawk and Throh
Since you’ll need one of these Pokémon to finish the mission, it’s smart to have one in your PC before you start. Both Sawk and Throh show up in Fighting-type 3-star+ Hyperspace Wild Zones. You can check the zone summaries to see if they appear there. If you don’t see either Pokémon listed, try resting to reset the Hyperspace Distortions.
If you keep resting to make these Distortions reappear, it’s faster to do this in your hotel bed than on a bench. When you spot a Hyperspace Distortion with one of these Pokémon, prepare a donut with Ansha to give yourself enough time to catch it. If you’re aiming for a shiny or alpha Pokémon, get a donut with alpha and sparkling powers beforehand.
Side Mission 172: Sawk vs. Throh
Once you have either Sawk or Throh, head over to the Justice Dojo to start the quest. Ivor will be there with two NPCs, Lence and Freppe. They support either Throh or Sawk, and want you to settle their fight over which Pokémon is better.
Be aware that there can be a glitch where this quest disappears if you don’t complete it right away. If you see it, it’s best to finish it immediately. If it doesn’t show up, even if you’ve met the requirements, try completing other side missions for it to possibly reappear.
To support one side, you’ll need to have only Sawk or Throh in your party. Talk to Ivor again after arranging your team. You’ll see a short scene of Pokémon battling. Then, you’ll face a one-on-one battle against the NPC supporting the other Pokémon, using the one you’ve chosen.
You can win with either Pokémon, but Throh is generally better because of its moves and stats. If you only find one, just use that one. The battle features level 80 Pokémon, so make sure yours are at least that strong, ideally above. If your Pokémon reach level 100, with enough experience candies from Distortions, you can defeat their Pokémon easily in just a few hits.
For the fight, Zen Headbutt is your best move since both Pokémon are weak to it and can learn it via TM. If you don’t have Zen Headbutt, Close Combat still works well to take down your opponent quickly. Remember to stock up on healing items during the fight, especially if your team isn’t high level.
After winning, you’ll see a short scene and receive 5,400 Pokémon Dollars plus TM moves for Low Sweep and Circle Throw. That completes the mission, allowing you to move on to your next task.
