Side quests in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers can be tricky to follow since a small mistake can cause a quest or its NPCs to end unexpectedly. If you want to avoid messing things up, here’s a guide to help you with the Great Yonder Gang.
There are two dangerous choices along the way that can accidentally harm Cloudspire City’s children. Carefully listening to the dialogue is key to their safe survival and progressing the quest. Helping these refugees isn’t game-changing, but who wouldn’t want to assist them in reaching a better place?
How to Find the Cloudspire City Gang Hideout
To locate Shen Jing’an, the gang’s leader:
- From the Cloudspire City Shrine, go through the open door across the street into the alley with the cave.
- Take the cave to the snowy area on the other side.
- Climb the snowy hill to your right, guarded by a Ming warrior with a shield.
- Drop down the ladder and enter the house on your left.
Note: Using the ladders from the alley and cave to shortcut to the gang hideout is possible, but opening the ladder shortcut here is important later for the rest of the questline.
Once inside, talk to Shen Jing’an at her headquarters. She might be defensive at first, so agree to join her gang. Doing so grants you the Celebrate gesture and unlocks a conversation with Matchstick. Speaking to him offers an optional sidequest to get her hat, but Shen Jing’an will have little more to say.
Joining the gang allows you to find Glut and tell him about your decision. However, it doesn’t have any major benefits unless you’re interested in extra dialogue.
Next, leave the building and head down the path to meet Shen Yanping, the butler, near the ladders. He needs the Phoenix wedding attire, which you know who to ask for.
Optional Sidequest: How to Find Matchstick’s Grandmother
If you’ve moved into Cloudspire City and a mysterious NPC with a hat appears as a quest in the Outskirts, that’s Matchstick. But there’s no need to hunt him now. Jump ahead by locating his grandmother directly in Mort Grotto, located at the base of the Outskirts.
To reach Mort Grotto:
- From the main Outskirts gate, turn right.
- Follow the path near the fence and cross the bridge at the bottom.
- Don’t cross the cave bridge; stay on the path that leads to the cliff face.
- Talk to the stone wall there to get the Vitality Bowl.
Take the bowl back to the central Outskirts area. Make your way up toward the Rebel Camp, then circle around to find the area where your demon appears — a burning wooden house.
Near that, inside the first open house to the left of the burning house, you will find Matchstick on the first floor. Approach him and give him the Vitality Bowl. He’ll go back to the gang’s headquarters and give you the Great Yonder Tiger Cap.
How to Obtain the Wedding Attire
Return to Shen Jing’an at Snowfall Palace. She already has the outfit you need, but you must do something for her first: bring Glut back. Remember that ladder you dropped? Use it to enter the snowy camp below, but be warned — enemies here are tough, including rifle-wielding militia, so proceed with caution.
Find Glut in the last tent at the end of the camp. Talk to him; he’ll hesitate, prompting you to make a choice:
- Send Glut back to Shen Jing’an. If you do, he’ll give you the wedding attire and some Steamed Bunny Buns. This allows you to continue, and you can progress the main story.
- Send Glut to his master. This ends the quest early. Glut will later be found dead in the shaft area after the Huang Yan boss, and defeating the miniboss there will reward you with Glut’s Token, showing his fate.
Once Glut is returned, revisit Shen Jing’an to receive the wedding outfit. She’s in possession of it, but before giving it to you, she wants you to do a favor: convince Glut to return with her. Use the ladder to enter the snowy encampment again, where Glut awaits.
How to Get the Wedding Attire
Tell Shen Jing’an about Glut’s whereabouts; she’ll have you face Huang Yan at Snowfall Palace. Take the elevator in the central chamber, guarded by archers and warriors. Once at the top, find Huang Yan and the Plain Warrioress resting; talk to her twice to give her the wedding attire.
Choose to either:
- Accuse the butler’s betrayal.
- Pretend ignorance.
Either way, she rewards you with Crystallized Red Mercury. Be aware that your choice here influences what happens next, so check the spoiler below for the consequences.
Afterward, go back to Shen Jing’an to present the attire. She has it but requires you to help her first. You need to rally Glut from the snowy encampment, which is heavily guarded — expect tough enemies.
Reuniting with the Gang: How to Heal Yanping
Proceed through Mt. Zhenwu until you find a cave with the Storyteller, who is a point-of-no-return; don’t talk to him. At Ferry Overlook, head to the docks past Li Dingo’s area, where Shen Jing’an and Yanping stand.
Speak with both to receive tokens from the marsh. Yanping asks for the True Origin Pill to recover from his illness, which you get by defeating Liu Wenxiu at the Mt. Zhenwu Temple area.
Return with the pill to Shen Jing’an, who will help heal Yanping.
Where to Find Glut and Matchstick’s Tokens
In the Avian Marsh, if you’ve reached this far, you can find Glut and Matchstick’s tokens. Continue along the upper path above the shrine to the dead-end where a leech enemy resides. Defeating it will drop Glut’s Token, and Matchstick’s token can be looted from the ground.
Farewell at Ferry Overlook
At the docks, Shen Jing’an and Yanping are further along, past Li Dingo. Talk to both; Yanping will give you a token in exchange for the Flawless Red Mercury. Then, teleport away and come back later. Shen Jing’an will ask if you want to accompany them, but you can choose to say:
I have some unfinished business to attend to.
She will understand, and this marks the end of the quest. The butler’s armor set will be left at Yanping’s spot at the docks when you leave and return.
