A new PlayStation 5 game serving as a prequel to the popular 2019 action role-playing game has just been released, but early reviews aren’t promising.
What PS5 sequel has received negative feedback?
GreedFall 2: The Dying World, developed by Spiders and published by Nacon, is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Although it’s a follow-up to the 2019 hit GreedFall, it functions as a prequel within the story. While the original game garnered mostly positive reviews with some mixed opinions, the sequel has mostly been met with disappointment.
On OpenCritic, the game debuted with an average critic score of 67, with most ratings falling into the lower range and an average of 6 or 7 at the higher end. Critics pointed out issues with strange story choices, combat, bugs, and more.
Ravi Sinha from GamingBolt described the game as “bizarre,” noting that “there is some promise, but it needs a lot of time and polishing to become something truly worthwhile.” Meanwhile, Timothy Nunes from PlayStation Universe said that “once you get past the prologue, the rest of the game feels like what you’d expect from a Spider Interactive RPG: charming characters, political storylines, and straightforward exploration. Combat is its own animal—offering options for tactical depth or a more casual experience. But the team took on too much this time, and the quality suffers for it. Still, there’s a solid Spider game here, but it might take some time to find it.”
Anita van Beugen from Gameliner criticized the game for showing potential yet stumbling in many areas, calling it “a disaster right now due to a weak story, emotionless characters, poor combat, numerous bugs, and technical issues that need fixing during Early Access.” Similarly, Jeoen Janssen from Evilgamerz echoed those concerns, stating “the game isn’t fully there yet in terms of execution, sometimes even far from it.”
GreedFall 2: The Dying World is now available.
