In The Sims 1, having your Sim turn into a zombie can feel like a nightmare, or at least a hassle. Thanks to the recent release of the The Sims 1 and 2 legacy collection, celebrating the game’s 25th anniversary, a whole new group of players can now enjoy every expansion pack ever launched, complete with all its quirks and oddities. This means that new players are bound to experience bizarre scenarios and challenges that are less typical in later installments, such as dealing with the unfortunate fate of a beloved Sim who has joined the ranks of the undead.
Fortunately, a fix for this predicament exists within one of the expansion packs, allowing you to bring your Sim back after a tragic run-in with death. However, it’s important to note that your Sim won’t return exactly as they were before. Thankfully, zombie Sims in The Sims 1 aren’t as troublesome as their counterparts in subsequent games, where these supernatural beings repel other Sims and decay significantly faster, presumably due to their rotting condition.
How to Restore Your Sim After They Become a Zombie
Reviving a Sim Only Costs 200 Simoleons
In the first game, there’s only one way for a Sim to become a zombie, unlike the numerous methods available in The Sims 2 and 3, which include being bitten or poorly revived by a genie. Zombies were first introduced in the Livin’ Large expansion pack, where a Sim can only become a zombie if they die and are awkwardly resurrected by the Grim Reaper. Another Sim who shares a close bond with the deceased must be present on the lot to plead with the Grim Reaper for the dying Sim’s life. This involves playing a seemingly endless game of rock-paper-scissors for a chance to win back your loved one.
If you lose the game and the Grim Reaper is feeling generous, he might bring the deceased Sim back as a zombie, saying, “Sorry, you lost. But the Grim Reaper is in a good mood today. Don’t get too excited though; a zombie is now part of your household!” Fortunately, unlike in later games, zombies in The Sims 1 behave just like regular Sims. They might turn green and lose all their personality traits, but they still keep their skill points intact.
The only way to revert a Sim to their former self is by visiting Miss Lucille, an NPC clad in a yellow dress and wide-brim hat, first seen in Unleashed, who reads palms at the community lot in Old Town.
Miss Lucille charges 200 Simoleons for the Revivification option to bring a zombie Sim back, although there is a chance it may not succeed.
If successful, Miss Lucille will announce, “Congratulations, your zombie is once again among the living!” If it fails, she’ll say, “I’m afraid your zombie isn’t ready to return to the land of the living just yet. Sorry, no refunds!”
What Happens After Your Sim Is Revived
Regaining Personality Traits Isn’t as Hard as it Seems
Once the revivification with Miss Lucille is successful, zombie Sims will return to their normal skin color but won’t automatically regain their former personality traits, as all traits were reset to zero during their transformation. Luckily, there are ways to rebuild personality traits, though they can take some time. One option is to use the Madame Blahbatfry Crystal Ball from Livin’ Large, which gives you tasks to complete, awarding you points if you finish them within a 24-hour timeframe.
These tasks might include tidying up the entire house for a Neat point or spending a full ten hours with neighbors to earn an Outgoing point. Another method for regaining personality traits is to brew a yellow potion using the Concoctanation Station, which was also introduced in Livin’ Large alongside the crystal ball.
This yellow potion modifies personality points by flipping their values. For instance, if a Sim has a two on the Active scale, it will become an eight, turning them from a couch potato into an athlete. Therefore, any Sim with zero in any trait will directly jump to ten, allowing former zombies to feel more alive than ever.
