In Borderlands 4, you can respec your character’s skills only after finding a Respec Machine that resets your skill points. These machines aren’t available until you reach the first main town. The process works similarly to past Borderlands games—pay a fee to undo your spent skill points so you can reassign them as you like. However, because Borderlands 4’s map is so open, it’s easy to get distracted and miss them early on. Below, you’ll find information on where to find Respec Machines and how they function.
There are seven Respec Machines scattered across Kairos, mainly near the major hub towns. You’ll probably come across most of them while progressing through the main story missions. The first one you’ll encounter is in The Launchpad. You can reach it early if you stay focused and avoid too many side activities.
When you accept the “Down and Outbound” mission, head to the waypoint at Outbounders’ HQ, which is The Launchpad. Defend the town from attacking enemies, then meet Rush in the underground bunker. Afterward, come back to the surface, and you’ll find The Launchpad up and running with vending machines and other facilities, including the Respec Machine inside the main building on the east side.
Keep in mind, there’s no limit to how many times you can respec. The only restriction is your in-game cash, which your Borderlands 4 characters have. The cost is deducted immediately once you activate the Respec Machine, so if you change your mind or close the menu without confirming, you won’t get a refund—you’re charged regardless.
Because respecs can get expensive, it’s best to plan carefully. You can reset skills in just your current skill tree or do a full reset of all your skill points. You can also revert your choices until you close the skill menu, at which point your decisions are set.
If you’ve perfected your build but want better weapons, consider earning Golden Keys through Borderlands 4 Shift Codes.
