Recently, Ready or Not has faced backlash as many fans are upset about what they believe is intentional censorship by the developer, Void Interactive. To maintain the game’s ESRB rating on consoles and support crossplay, Void had to ensure that the game on PC had the same rating, leading to alterations in some of the game’s more controversial content.
Some players see the removal of certain gore and nudity as a reasonable trade-off for crossplay. However, this hasn’t prevented the game’s reviews on Steam from dropping to Mostly Negative in recent days. A significant portion of the Ready or Not community is frustrated and has even organized boycotts while demanding the reinstatement of the removed content.
Ready Or Not Will Let Players Mod Altered Material Back Into The Game
To address concerns, Void Interactive has made an offer for those who want to see the content that was altered. In a post on the Ready or Not Discord channel, a developer named Kaminsky stated that players would have the option to mod the altered content back into the game if they choose.
This decision has left some fans feeling both satisfied and annoyed. Some argue this shows that Void could have simply included a toggle option for the content. However, a toggle would mean that the content could still be present in the game, which would have affected the ESRB rating and led to the very changes implemented.
Players who want to return to the original version of the game on PC can mod the content back in but may not be able to use crossplay if mods are installed. This solution provides a way for everyone to have what they prefer, although some continue to criticize Void for what they see as a minor issue.
