The section of PS Plus Premium offering free game trials keeps getting worse, and it seems there’s no end in sight. As we’ve pointed out before, the benefits here already lag behind the free demos available on the PS Store, and now they’re adding a trial for MindsEye—another questionable choice.
The highest tier of PS Plus is now giving a two-hour trial for a game with a Metacritic score of only 28/100.
This addition wouldn’t be so disappointing if PS Plus Premium trials were updated consistently or if MindsEye hadn’t already been available in a free “Starter Pack” that doesn’t require a Premium membership. Interestingly, that free Starter Pack has mysteriously disappeared from the PlayStation Store, and it’s unclear if this removal is temporary or permanent.
At this point, PS Plus Premium—especially the Deluxe plan—offers little beyond what the Extra tier provides. Cloud streaming remains limited to certain regions, meaning PS3 classics are off-limits for Deluxe subscribers. The game trial library isn’t refreshed often, all VR titles have been quietly phased out, and new classics are limited to just one game per month—without any guarantee of trophies.
Hopefully, Sony steps up and makes the Premium offering more worthwhile than this.
