PS Plus members have been notified that they are eligible for the recent free PS5 upgrade of one of the top PS4 action-adventure titles, Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition. The PS5 version is already accessible to owners without an extra charge, but PS Plus users are still waiting to receive their free upgrade.
Team Cherry confirmed that the PS5 upgrade should be available to PS Plus subscribers. They acknowledged that the update hasn’t gone live for members yet and are currently in discussions with Sony to resolve the delay.
As of now, the free upgrade still hasn’t appeared for users. There are two important points to keep in mind: First, updating the Hollow Knight listing on the PS Store has triggered a recurring glitch that causes the game to disappear from the PS Plus Extra library. Second, players who previously claimed Hollow Knight as a free game in 2020 will likely be ineligible to access the free PS5 upgrade.
Regarding the first point, this issue has been discussed extensively before. Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition is included in the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogs. However, if you didn’t add the game to your library or download it prior to the PS5 port’s release, it won’t appear in the catalog until the PlayStation Store updates properly. Do not buy the game now if you’re a PS Plus Extra or Premium member! Wait until Hollow Knight reappears in the store catalog.
For the second point, according to a statement from Team Cherry, the free PS5 upgrade is designated for “PS+ Game Catalog players.” Since Essential or monthly free games are different from the PS Plus Catalog, it appears that players who claimed the game back in November 2020 will not be able to access the free upgrade.
