The upcoming unannounced DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is quickly becoming one of the gaming world’s most secretive topics. Rumors about the new content started circulating last year, hinting that it will act as a bridge between the 2015 RPG and The Witcher 4. The latest leak provides even more specifics, including the potential setting for the expansion.
According to a report from IGN Poland, the publication was aware of the DLC’s existence years ago but chose not to publish anything at the time because they only had information from a single source. Now that it appears the project is nearly confirmed, they’re sharing what they previously learned.
“We’ve known about the development of a possible new expansion behind the scenes for quite some time,” IGN stated. They emphasized that they prefer not to reveal their sources’ identities to protect their credibility, but they confirmed that the project was early in development.
At that stage, the developers showed interest in exploring a different region than the frozen North. Multiple hints suggested they were particularly interested in Zerrikania—a desert region situated to the east of the Northern Kingdoms and Nilfgaard. While the report underscores this as a possible setting for the DLC, it also notes that these details were provided years ago, and the project’s scope or direction may have changed since then.
The article pointed out that “years have passed since we first heard about a desert-based DLC, and game development ideas often evolve over time. It’s possible that the final concept will lead us to the same areas as The Witcher 4.”
Whether the new DLC will take players to the arid sands of Zerrikania or the snowy peaks of Kovir remains uncertain. Fans will need to wait and see how the story unfolds.
