If you’ve finished the main story in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you’re probably trying to catch them all for real. I respect your dedication, but there are some important things to keep in mind about how Pokémon appear so you don’t get exhausted.
First, rare Pokémon can come back even after they disappear. It might seem like they’re gone forever, even after moving around quickly, but you need to wait through several in-game days before they show up again.
How to Reset Pokémon Spawns in Legends: Z-A
It’s All About Resting Repeatedly
Sometimes, especially in Lumiose City on rooftops, you’ll see a rare Pokémon like a Dratini. Usually, these Pokémon run away when they sense danger and then disappear, leaving players confused about how to find them again.
Here’s a trick: rest on a bench multiple times to trigger new day and night cycles. This resets the Pokémon’s spawn points, giving you a fresh chance to find and catch them. The easiest spot is the bench at the Vernal Pokémon Center in the southern part of Lumiose City. Sit there, follow the prompts to rest, and keep confirming until it tells you to wait until the next day or night.
Pro Tip:
You need to go through at least three full day/night cycles for rare Pokémon to reappear. Feel free to do this as many times as needed—there’s no limit to how often you can reset.
If you keep returning to the same bench, it will become a habit for you to do it quickly and mostly by muscle memory. Actually, it’s better to use that same bench because it’s always available, instead of hunting for a new spot each time.
If at First You Don’t Succeed, Try Again and Again
Some Pokémon will take multiple resets before they show up. Even after resetting the time and checking many spots, they might still run away. That’s okay! It might take several tries—like it did for me with a Dratini, which took 15 attempts. Some Pokémon are just better at escaping than others.
If you’re spending too much time trying to find a rare Pokémon, remember you can check its spawn location, see if it’s there, and then rest on the bench again until it appears. The game’s graphics are pretty good at letting you spot Pokémon from far away, so use your eyes to scan the area.
In the end, mastering the day/night cycle and using resting spots to reset spawns can help you catch those hard-to-find Pokémon. It might be frustrating at times, but with patience, you’ll be able to find and catch the rarities you want.
