In Minecraft, you can trade with Piglins using Gold Ingots to get many useful items. Piglins live in the Nether, which is a dangerous, fiery dimension and the only place where you can find some of the rarest materials in the game. Usually, Piglins don’t trade willingly, but you can encourage them to trade gold for special items like enchanted books and armor pieces.
To enter the Nether, you need to build a Nether Portal out of Obsidian blocks and activate it with a Flint and Steel. Some of the best worlds in Minecraft have portals that don’t need many resources to complete. Keep in mind, Piglins are very hostile and will attack you unless you’re wearing at least one piece of Gold Armor.
Piglins are mostly found in the Nether Wastes and Crimson Forest biomes, which are very common in the Nether area.
How to Trade with Piglins in Minecraft
Show Off Your Gold Armor
When you wear at least one piece of Gold Armor—like a helmet, chestplate, leggings, or boots—Piglins become neutral and won’t attack you. To trade, toss a Gold Ingot on the ground near them or right-click (or left trigger on game controllers) while holding a Gold Ingot. Be careful in the Nether, as it’s a dangerous place with lava and tough mobs, and Gold Armor offers only minimal protection.
If you do it right, the Piglin will think about your offer for a moment and then drop a random item from its trade list. The chances of getting the best items aren’t very high, but most trades cost at least one Gold Ingot.
Gold is useful in Minecraft for crafting things like Powered Rails, Netherite Ingots, and Golden Apples, but it’s not rare and isn’t as strong as Iron for tools or armor. Feel free to smelt Gold Ore into Ingots and spend them on trades with Piglins. If you don’t have Gold, you can also build mobs farms to collect it.
How to Build a Piglin Trading Farm
You can make a farm to trade with Piglins automatically and get items quickly. First, trap a single Piglin behind blocks of iron and glass. Then, place a Dropper above its head. With a Redstone Torch, the Dropper can repeatedly drop Gold Ingots onto the Piglin, so it keeps trading as long as it gets gold.
It’s a good idea to have a lever nearby to turn the Redstone Torch on or off, so you can give the Piglin a break when needed. Position a large chest just a block under and to the side of the Piglin to store all the items it trades. Keep supplying Gold Ingots to the Dropper, and your farm will keep producing items.
If you’re playing on the Bedrock Edition, there’s a bug where Piglins trade instantly whenever a Gold Block is broken next to them. Automating a Gold Block to be broken repeatedly can trick the Piglin into trading nonstop. This method doesn’t work in Java Edition yet, but it’s a neat trick for Bedrock players.

Dried Ghast is a new item added in Minecraft 1.21, found in the Soul Sand Valley or crafted from Ghast Tears and Soul Sand. Dried Ghasts can also be turned into Ghastlings by soaking them in water.
Note: It’s important to remember that Piglins’ trade outcomes are random, so you’ll need many Gold Ingots to reliably get the items you want. Many trades help with Nether exploration, like Fire Resistance and Soul Speed boots, and Ender Pearls are crucial for reaching the End dimension. If you get items you don’t need, you can always throw them into lava to save inventory space.
Since the update allowing Dried Ghasts, no new items have been added to Piglin trades, but players hope future updates will bring more options. Nearly every item traded with Piglins has some use, especially the Gold Ingots used to make offers.
Playing in Minecraft, trading with Piglins is a great way to gather rare items and resources, but always be cautious, as the Nether is a dangerous place to venture alone.
