Just when it seemed like Hollow Knight: Silksong would be the biggest indie game of 2025, Supergiant announced that Hades 2 will launch fully before the year ends. The release schedule for Hades 2 is a bit more complicated than Silksong’s, with platform exclusivity and a longer wait for its physical edition.
Hades 2 has been playable in early access on PC for over a year. The official 1.0 version is set to launch on September 25, 2025. This date was shared during a Nintendo Direct, revealing that for a limited time, the game will only be available on Nintendo Switch. It might be confusing, but whether you want to jump in early or wait for the full release, here’s everything you need to know before pre-ordering Hades 2.
You can pre-order Hades 2 now for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, or start playing on PC right away. Despite being available early on Steam, the full version will officially launch on September 25. If you buy now, you’ll automatically get the full, finished game through an update on that day. For Switch players, the game will be available on both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 console when it launches. While the Switch 2 version will feature improvements, like the ability to run at 120 frames per second when docked, the game will cost $29.99 on any platform.
Pre-orders for the digital version are open now through various retailers. If you prefer physical copies, the Switch 2 physical edition will be available on November 20, 2025. Fans planning to buy physical copies afterward will be happy to hear there’s no collector’s edition or extra bonuses, but the physical release is noteworthy.
Unlike most third-party Switch games, Hades 2’s physical edition isn’t just a game key card. The entire game will be on the cartridge, which is great for collectors who prefer physical copies. Although Nintendo’s smallest cartridge size is 64 GB and Hades 2’s Switch 2 version is under 10 GB, developers decided to include the whole game on the card—likely the reason it’s more expensive than the digital version.
As for other platforms, Hades 2 will eventually come to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and possibly PS4 and Xbox One, but there’s no confirmed release date yet. The physical edition releasing in November might hint at an imminent arrival on other consoles, but since the only physical version available now is for the Switch 2, it’s unlikely it will be ported soon. Most experts expect the PlayStation and Xbox versions to arrive sometime around March 2026.
Fans might wonder if Zagreus, the protagonist from the first game, will appear in Hades 2. He hasn’t been shown yet, but most fans believe he will be included at some point. The main villain in the sequel will be Chronos, the Titan of Time, who Melinoe will have to face in the game.
Although Hades 2 might seem overwhelming at first, it’s friendly to new players. Remember, you can learn at your own pace, and more areas and items will become clear as you progress through the game.
