Microsoft fans have been urging new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma to reconsider PlayStation 5 game releases, but it seems unlikely that this approach will change anytime soon. Sharma made a misstep by replying to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) with a simple “hear you” when they expressed a desire for Xbox exclusives to return. In a recent interview, she indicated that restoring exclusive titles isn’t an immediate priority.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been openly praising the success of Xbox titles on the PS5, and it’s unlikely the company will reverse this strategy, especially given the strong sales of Xbox games on Sony’s console. Nadella has even been touting PlayStation sales to investors, suggesting that shifting course might not make financial sense for a business that’s already facing some struggles.
When asked about Microsoft’s commitment to Xbox, Sharma told Windows Central, “We know there are many players who aren’t on consoles or using our hardware, and I want to be able to deliver great games to them too. I need to understand what that could look like, what decisions have been made, and what steps we need to take moving forward. I ask for some time and space to figure that out.”
However, Sharma also revealed that she’s still trying to understand why Microsoft chose to adopt a multiplatform approach before her appointment and what the current data indicates about the Xbox strategy.
She summed it up by saying, “The plan’s the plan until it’s not,” implying that major changes may not be on the horizon—least of all, perhaps, the cancellation of Halo’s PlayStation 5 release.
