To access the Elden Ring’s Consecrated Snowfield and Haligtree, you’ll need the Haligtree Secret Medallion. This medallion is essential for activating the Grand Lift of Rold, which leads to this challenging and optional area—one of the toughest in all of Elden Ring. If you manage to overcome its dangers, you’ll face the renowned boss, Malenia.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to obtain the two halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion and how to reach the Grand Lift of Rold, ultimately leading you to the Consecrated Snowfield. We’ll also discuss the required levels and key points of interest in the Snowfield that make it worth exploring!

How to Reach the Consecrated Snowfield in Elden Ring

To get to the Consecrated Snowfield in Elden Ring, follow these steps:

  1. Make Your Way to the Grand Lift of Rold
Defeating Morgott in Leyndell will lead you to the Grand Lift of Rold. If you’re struggling with Morgott, we’ve got tips on how to beat him. After defeating him, the barrier to the East path out of Leyndell will lift, granting you access to the Grand Lift. If you present the Rold Medallion obtained from Melina after defeating Morgott, you’ll be taken up to the Mountaintops of the Giants. If you possess both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, however, it will take you down to the path leading to the Consecrated Snowfield. Your first goal will be to find these two halves!
  2. Find the Right Half from Albus
The right half of the medallion is held by an NPC in Liurnia. You’ll need to locate him in the Village of the Albinaurics, which is situated in the caves beneath the plateau to the Southwest. Albus is hiding in the East side of the village disguised as a large pot. Hit him once to break the illusion, revealing him as a frail old man. Speak with him to receive the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right). He will ask you to deliver it to another NPC named Latenna, but you aren’t required to do so.
  3. Obtain the Left Half from Commander Niall
The left half of the Haligtree medallion is located after defeating Commander Niall, an optional boss in Castle Sol at the northern end of the Mountaintops of the Giants. This battle is notoriously difficult in the Elden Ring community, so you might want to check out our guide on how to beat him. After defeating Niall, proceed past his arena to a small elevator that will lift you to a watchtower. The left half of the medallion lies on the ground near a ghostly NPC.
  4. Combine the Medallion Halves at the Grand Lift
With both halves in hand, return to the Grand Lift of Rold. You should now see a new prompt to “Hoist Secret Medallion.” Just like at the Dectus Lift, a cutscene will play as you do this, and you’ll be brought to a new area—you’re almost at the Snowfield!
  5. Navigate the Hidden Path to the Haligtree
This path, while somewhat straightforward, is packed with secrets. Expect invisible walkways, a hidden Mimic Tear boss fight, and illusion walls. However, if your goal is simply to move through, just climb the big staircase, deal with or bypass the large octopus at the top, and head right along some additional stairs until you finally reach the Snowfield!

After completing these steps, you’ll find yourself in the Snowfield, but be prepared for a fierce snowstorm that limits visibility. However, as long as you keep heading North on your mount, you’ll eventually find clearer ground.

Below are additional details on each step, which will require a mix of skill, perseverance, and a bit of stealth.

Can You Access the Consecrated Snowfield Without the Haligtree Secret Medallion or Defeating Commander Niall?

Theoretically, there’s a way to access the Consecrated Snowfield without the Medallion or defeating Commander Niall, but it involves a glitch that may not be reliable. Some players have reported success, but proceed with caution.

The method entails jumping from cliffs near the Shack of the Lofty in the West Mountaintops of the Giants. Use Torrent to double-jump as far as you can toward the Minor Erdtree below. While you will typically fall to your death, some have successfully landed in a catchment area for a Stake of Marika, allowing them to respawn inside the Snowfield!

Level Recommendation

You can reach the Snowfield soon after defeating Morgott, but we recommend being at least level 100. As you proceed deeper into this area, encountering tougher bosses, you may wish to aim even higher. The challenges here are decidedly late-game, so being well-prepared is key.

What Awaits You in the Consecrated Snowfield?

The Consecrated Snowfield is expansive, featuring various sub-locations and dungeons worth exploring. Here’s a brief list of notable sites to check out:

  1. Yelough Anix Tunnel: A dungeon with Astel, Stars of Darkness as the boss, a variant of the boss from the Ranni questline.
  2. Mohgwyn’s Palace Waygate: Find a portal here that takes you to the outskirts of Mohgwyn’s Palace, if you haven’t completed Varre’s questline.
  3. Walking Mausoleum: Duplicate your Remembrances here, but beware of its magical attacks.
  4. Ordina, Liturgical Town: Solve a puzzle involving lighting torches while avoiding invisible assassins to unlock a portal to the Haligtree.
  5. Minor Erdtree: Defeat a Putrid Avatar here for a Ruptured Crystal Tear, which grants unique effects.
  6. Miquella’s Haligtree/Elphael: A massive dungeon where you’ll traverse the branches and face Malenia, one of the game’s toughest bosses.
