In Civilization 7, it’s smart to heal your units when battles start getting tough. While it might pull them out of action for a bit, it’s far better than losing them to enemy attacks. Healing increases their longevity on the battlefield, allowing them to gain promotions and grow stronger overall. If you’re gearing up for a conflict against another civilization, knowing how to effectively heal your units in Civ 7 can be a game-changer.

There are two simple methods to heal units in Civ 7, and both require minimal action on your part. If any of your military or civilian units are low on health, you can choose between the Skip Turn or Heal options.

  • Skip Turn: This option allows the unit to forgo movement during this turn in exchange for a small health boost. You can continue this in subsequent turns if further healing is needed.
  • Heal: This option puts the unit into a resting state until they are fully healed. Unlike Skip Turn, you won’t need to issue new commands until the healing process is complete or you cancel it. Units healing will display a few tents in the tile they occupy.

Both options can be accessed through the toolbar at the bottom-right of the screen. Skip Turn is directly beneath the unit’s name, while the Heal option can be found by selecting the arrow to view additional actions. In our experience, using Heal tends to restore health more quickly, although Skip Turn keeps the unit active in your turn, helping you remain aware of their status.

While both methods are useful, we suggest using Skip Turn for units that are at risk. This approach ensures you’re not caught off guard by enemy forces, allowing you to prepare for a defense or a strategic retreat. On the other hand, you should opt for Heal when you don’t plan on deploying the units for the next five turns or so.

Additionally, keep in mind that units heal faster in friendly territory. If possible, move any wounded units within your own borders or those of an allied City State. You can also enhance your healing rate by selecting the God of Healing Pantheon, which boosts healing for units on rural tiles by +5.
