The Yargonaut is an optional miniboss that was introduced in Hades 2 with The War Song update. Armed with a menacing fishbone blade and a firearm, he commands a fleet of undead sailors to challenge you.
You’ll come across The Yargonaut on your way to Olympus. Encountering him can be a challenge due to his low spawn rate. If you do happen upon him, this guide will provide you with essential information about his location, abilities, attack patterns, and some effective tips and strategies for defeating him.
Hades 2 is currently in Early Access, and this guide may be updated as new information becomes available.
Where to Find The Yargonaut
The Yargonaut resides in the Rift of Thessaly, found among the ghostly fleet of Chronos where the undead sailors are abundant. Should you enter a chamber filled with Sea-Shamblers and spot a captain wielding a fishbone weapon in one hand and a gun in the other, you’ve located him.
In addition to The Yargonaut, you may encounter Charybdis, another miniboss, within the Rift of Thessaly.
Yargonaut’s Abilities
The Yargonaut can be quite the challenge with his unpredictable bouncing attacks and teleportation skills. He has four primary abilities: two melee attacks, one ranged attack, and a blink maneuver.
Beware, as his attacks can deal tremendous damage and severely reduce your health. It’s critical to understand his patterns and stay alive. Here’s a breakdown of each ability and how to counter them:
Ability |
Description |
How to Counter |
---|---|---|
Double Barrage |
The Yargonaut raises his gun and fires two rounds of missiles. Expect four red circles on the ground indicating where they’ll explode. The missiles land in pairs, so you’ll witness two explosions at once. |
Avoid the red circles to steer clear of damage. |
Bouncing Shot |
This attack fires three pink projectiles that bounce off the ship’s walls. |
Since they bounce once, observe their path and time your dodges wisely. |
Cleave Attack |
The Yargonaut swings his fishbone blade for a close-range attack. |
Keep your distance, dodge to the side, or get behind him to avoid being hit. |
Blink |
This move allows him to teleport and appear elsewhere. |
Stay vigilant, control your attacks, and prepare to adjust to his new position. Avoid spamming attacks, as this can hinder your ability to redirect your strikes effectively. |
Strategies for Defeating The Yargonaut
Upon entering the room, The Yargonaut will immediately launch a missile attack. Evade the red circles. Following that, he may shoot three bouncing projectiles multiple times. He might execute a blink move or fire more missiles. Your focus should be on dodging his attacks instead of engaging him.
Your first step should be to eliminate the Sea-Shamblers. Allowing them to remain active will complicate the battle. Unlike the stationary jellyfish during the Hellifish encounter, these foes will actively pursue you. Plus, with their presence cluttering the area, it’ll be harder to track The Yargonaut’s movements when he blinks.
Make sure to utilize your Cast frequently. It can trap the Sea-Shamblers, provide additional damage, and create space for you to maneuver.
For a significant advantage, the Lunar Ray Moon Boon is ideal, as it helps clear enemies quickly and works well against bosses like The Yargonaut. If magic is your playstyle, consider Dark Side and Total Eclipse, which can be triggered often.
Phase Shift is another excellent choice, slowing down time and giving you more opportunities to respond.
After dispatching the Sea-Shamblers, prepare for a one-on-one battle with The Yargonaut. However, keep your guard up. He can absorb damage and his teleporting might catch you by surprise. Maintain focus, track his movements, and whittle down his defenses. Once you break through his armor, victory will be within reach.
