The *Dragon Age: Veilguard* quest, “Pinnacle of Its Kind,” leads you on a mission to eliminate three demons, each representing the Formless One. While the main antagonist awaits in the Necropolis, you must first track down these demons in Dock Town, Arlathan, and the Hossberg Wetlands. After you defeat all three, you can return to the Necropolis for your confrontation with the Formless One.

“Pinnacle of Its Kind” is one of the more complex tasks in *Dragon Age: Veilguard*, and players will need to be well-equipped for the challenge. With the final boss at level 40, it’s advisable to be at least level 33 unless you’re very confident in your abilities. Pinnacle of Its Kind Walkthrough for Dragon Age: Veilguard

To begin the “Pinnacle of Its Kind” side quest, you’ll need to first recruit Emmrich, one of the last companions in *Dragon Age: Veilguard*, and unlock access to the Necropolis. After returning to the Necropolis, follow these steps:

Visit the Hollow Belfry and finish the Restless Spirits side quest, which involves guiding four Wisps to a door and defeating the cultists inside.
This opens the Chamber of the Unforged. At the large door at the end, interact with it to trigger the “Pinnacle of Its Kind” quest.
Head to the designated area and examine the “Bloody Note Found on Venatori” and the “Words Scrawled Faintly in Blood” on the bodies.
This will set three demons as targets. They can be found in the Hossberg Wetlands, Arlathan, and Dock Town.
Go to each marked location and engage with a brazier filled with green fire to commence combat with each Formless One Avatar.
After defeating all three avatars, return to the Chamber of the Unforged and open the door.
Inside, you’ll encounter The Formless One, a demon that possesses the remains of a dragon. This level 40 boss fight will be challenging.
Defeat the Formless One to complete “Pinnacle of Its Kind” and finish the side quest.

All Demon Locations in “Pinnacle of Its Kind”

Each of the three demons you need to defeat in “Pinnacle of Its Kind” is an avatar of The Formless One, but they appear in different areas and have unique abilities and weaknesses. Below is a guide to their locations and vulnerabilities, so you can prepare effectively.

Hossberg Demon

This demon is located in the southern part of Hossberg Wetlands, at a spot called Solitude’s Edge. The green brazier you need to interact with is situated on the west side of the marked area, at the bottom of the steps. This demon appears as a swift wraith and is vulnerable to electrical attacks while resistant to necrotic damage.

Dock Town Demon

This avatar can be found in the southeast area of Dock Town, at the dead end by the Spillway. The brazier is located on the west side of the arena near where you enter. The demon it summons is a large, lumbering brute who is vulnerable to necrotic damage but resistant to electrical attacks.

Arlathan Demon

This demon can be found at the northwest end of Arlathan, at the far end of the Tattered Bridge. The brazier can be located just to the west of the marked area near the ladder. It’s a small fighting arena where you’ll engage this avatar, which is a swift fire-themed demon resistant to fire but vulnerable to freezing attacks, such as those that Neve excels at.

Once you’ve defeated all three demons, return to the Necropolis to face the real challenge ahead.

How to Defeat the Formless One Undead Dragon in “Pinnacle of Its Kind”

The Formless One is a level 40 dragon that mirrors previous challenges faced in either Minrathous or Treviso during the campaign, presenting similar attacks and vulnerabilities. Here’s how to tackle this formidable opponent:

The Formless One is vulnerable to necrotic attacks and resistant to electrical damage. Consider bringing Emmrich and Lucanis to fully utilize this advantage.
Aim for the glowing spots on its legs to maximize damage and stagger it.
The Formless One can deliver rapid leg swipes, resulting in significant damage; be ready to dodge when you’re near.
Its electrical breath attack is indicated by a diminishing lightning circle on your character—dodge away as the circle tightens to evade the ensuing lightning strike.
At certain points, the dragon will alight on a wall and unleash an electrical attack while summoning undead minions. Clear out the minions to force the dragon back down.
If you can stagger the dragon, you won’t execute a finisher, but its heart will glow, creating a weak point. Take advantage of this opportunity to unleash your strongest attacks.
