The enigmatic bodyguard Yojimbo finally unveils himself during the thrilling conclusion of the Even Further Hildibrand Adventures side quest in Final Fantasy 14. It turns out that he is actually Gilgamesh, looking to settle the score after your last encounter at the Big Bridge back in A Realm Reborn.

He’s not just sporting new samurai attire for effect; Gilgamesh has honed some new skills in the Kugane Ohashi Trial, serving once again as the final boss in our beloved investigator’s quests. You’ll need to step up your game if you want to defeat him this time around.

How to Unlock Kugane Ohashi

The Stormblood Trial becomes available automatically during the Hildibrand quests in Stormblood. Specifically, you gain access through the quest "The Past Is Never Past," given by Nashu at Kugane (X:10.5, Y:8.1). This quest is the second-to-last in the series, so brace yourself for some significant lore revelations along the way. If you haven’t tackled any of Hildibrand’s quests so far, you’ve got a lot to catch up on.

Kugane Ohashi is a Level 70 Trial requiring a minimum Item Level of 365, featuring yet another humorous (yet deadly) showdown against the legendary Gilgamesh!

Kugane Ohashi Guide

Being a narrative Trial, this fight is relatively straightforward but can quickly spiral if many players go down during the encounter. Many of his attacks are reminiscent of those used in previous battles against Gilgamesh, but he has also picked up some new tactics from other encounters, staying true to his unpredictable style.

Here are the moves you’ll face during this battle, starting with his disguised form:

Attack Type Description
Inoshikacho Circle AoE Summons four butterflies on random players. Avoid the AoEs that pop up.
Metta-giri AoE AoE damage affects all players.

After employing these two moves and losing some health, Yojimbo will finally transform into his true form: Gilgamesh.

Attack Type Description
Icewind Special Creates ice lines on the floor, leaving only small safe spots. He repeats it and attacks with circle AoEs.
Gekko Special The AoE from each player becomes a donut AoE with a safe area in the center. If the area overlaps with another donut, move to the outside.
Tiny Song Special Shrinks all players. To counter this, stack with others near the boss when red arrows appear over your head.
Bitter End Cleave Tankbuster Inflicts heavy damage on the main target and hits anyone in the sword’s path. Non-tanks should avoid standing in front of him.
Dragon Heads Special Summons various dragon heads at one side of the arena. Find a safe spot between them before they reach you.
Dragon Night AoE AoE damage affecting all players.

After using these attacks, he will shift into the next phase.

Following the initial attacks, Gilgamesh summons two clones to attack the tanks. Each clone must be defeated to proceed. The fight continues until Gilgamesh employs Susano’s Ame-no-Murakumo attack, which cleaves through the middle of the arena. Stay clear of this attack to face him in the final round.

Here are his final phase moves:

Attack Type Description
Giga Jump Proximity AoE Drops down on the main tank to join the fray.
Electrogenetic Force Orb AoE Summons multiple dangerous orbs that dictate a safe area.
Enchain Special Chains all tanks and healers, forcing DPS to break them out.
Masamune Line AoE Targets the north of the arena with a line attack.
Zanma Zanmai AoE Hits all players with Zanmato, reducing health to 1.
Epic Stormsplitter Line AoE A scaled-down version of Susano’s ultimate attack; dodge to the sides.

Gilgamesh will continue to leverage these moves, intertwining previously used attacks until he is finally defeated.

Kugane Ohashi Rewards

Upon defeating Gilgamesh, you not only progress in Hildibrand’s quests but also earn the Yojimbo Barding. This item cannot be traded and is exclusive to this trial. Additionally, Yojimbo drops the Stormblood Gilgamesh Card for Triple Triad, which is also unique to this encounter.

Now that you’re well-versed in the Kugane Ohashi Trial, prepare yourself for a memorable battle against one of the game’s most iconic characters!
