The Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt in Pokémon GO is one of the most challenging opponents among the 20 different Team GO Rocket Grunts. Although these Grunts are commonly found, they serve as the initial hurdle you must clear to confront Pokémon GO Rocket Boss Giovanni. You can encounter them at PokeStops or through Rocket Balloons that show up near your location on the map.

Before you engage in combat, you won’t know which Grunt you’ll face. Each Grunt has a distinctive line they use to announce the type of Pokémon they’ll be using in battle. The Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt specifically indicates that they will employ Ghost-type Pokémon.

Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt Team & Counters in Pokémon GO (March 2025)

How to Tackle Ghost-Type Pokémon

All Pokémon used by the Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt are at least partially Ghost-type. To ramp up the challenge, many of these Pokémon are dual-types, which means you’ll need to approach each battle with a diverse strategy instead of relying on just one type. Unlike the Leaders and Boss, every Grunt features three potential Pokémon for each of their three waves, resulting in numerous possible combinations you could encounter.

All Pokémon used by the Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt in March 2025 are shadow versions, making them tougher to beat while also more rewarding to catch.

There haven’t been any changes in the line-up for the Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt this month, which means the same nine Pokémon will be used. The first wave will consist of either Gastly, Golett, or Duskull. In the second wave, you might encounter another Golett, Sableye, or Haunter. Finally, the third wave is reserved for the strongest, featuring either Gengar, Alolan Marowak, or Froslass.

Many of the Pokémon used by the Ke Ke Ke Ke Grunt rank among the top Ghost-types in Pokémon GO. Despite the variety of combinations you may face, many have similar weaknesses due to their Ghost-type association.

All Ghost-type Pokémon are vulnerable to both Ghost and Dark-type attacks. If you choose other Ghost-types, remember that they will also be susceptible to the G grunt’s Pokémon, making Dark-types a better option. Darkrai stands out as an excellent choice, able to dominate Ghost-types easily. It’s a good strategy to pair it with another pure Dark-type like Umbreon, but adding a Fairy-type to counter Sableye is crucial. Xerneas is the top Fairy-type option in Pokémon GO.

Rewards for Defeating Rocket Grunts in Pokémon GO

One of Three Shadow Pokémon

When you defeat any of the Rocket Grunt teams in Pokémon GO this March 2025, you’ll earn several rewards. The primary goal is to acquire Mysterious Components. For every Grunt you defeat, you’ll earn one component, and once you collect six, you can obtain a Rocket Radar. This lets you challenge one of the Team GO Rocket Leaders: Cliff, Sierra, or Arlo.

To face Team GO Boss Giovanni in March, you need to defeat six Grunts and all three Leaders.

Moreover, after battling, you’ll have the chance to catch a Shadow Pokémon. This will always be one of the first Pokémon that Ke Ke Ke Ke used, which this month will be either Gastly, Duskull, or Golett. Additionally, you’ll receive 500 Stardust, which you can use to enhance and boost any Pokémon in your collection.

The Ke Ke Ke Ke Rocket Grunt remains the toughest challenge in Pokémon GO due to their Ghost-type Pokémon, but with the right strategies and counters, you can overcome this hurdle. Focus on utilizing Dark, Ghost, and Fairy-type Pokémon for the best chances of victory.
