Just like the first game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach offers an expansive world to explore, complete with numerous optional spots. Many critics have praised the game’s impressive graphics, highlighting how the smeared tar effects on characters look stunning. Interestingly, these tar pits are central to unlocking the trophy called “The Scars Left by the Giants.”
To earn this trophy, you’ll need to get to the BT nexus located in the F3 crater, which is close to Heartman’s Lab. Initially, it might seem complicated to navigate to this area, but obtaining this trophy is surprisingly straightforward, especially for a silver level. In fact, many bronze trophies in Death Stranding 2 are tougher than “The Scars Left by the Giants.” Unlike the trophy “Rare Specimen Rescuer,” there are two equally effective methods to secure this trophy.
Crossing the Tar Pit Is Simpler Than You Think
No Coffin Needed
Many guides suggest that the earliest chance to obtain “The Scars Left by the Giants” is after acquiring the Coffin Board, which makes traversing the area easier. This isn’t entirely true—you can actually get the trophy much sooner. The best time to go for it is right after you complete the first Main Order at Heartman’s Lab.
It’s a little nerve-wracking since Sam gets quite close to sinking, but you can reach the F3 crater with this approach.
Head left to find the edge nearest to the F3 crater. Make sure to mark your map, but don’t linger too long; there have been reports of overheating issues in Death Stranding 2’s map menu. Equip a Boost Skeleton, ensure Sam has a weapon in his cargo, and take a Pickup Off-Roader to begin your journey across the tar pit. Keep driving forward in the truck, and once you’re ejected from the vehicle, continue sprinting. You should make it to the F3 crater.
Once you arrive, you’ll need to deal with a massive floating BT, which is fairly easy to defeat. After that, enter the tar pit in the crater to unlock the trophy. Unfortunately, there’s nothing in the crater itself—not even in the center. There aren’t any fishing spots, as Death Stranding 2 has no fishing mechanics, which is a missed feature. So, don’t waste your time exploring the center and simply reload a previous save after obtaining the trophy.
Another Method That Can Save You Time
The Adventurer Offers the Easiest Trophy Acquisition Method
While you can obtain “The Scars Left by the Giants” trophy immediately, consider waiting until later in the game when you can unlock it naturally. Several facilities in Death Stranding 2 can only be upgraded by completing specific Sub Orders. Facilities like The Fisherman, The Ghost Hunter, and particularly relevant to this trophy, The Adventurer, fall into this category. By completing the final Sub Order necessary for upgrading The Adventurer, you will traverse through the F3 crater.
Since you need to max out all 42 facilities in the game for the “Connecting Hearts and Minds” trophy, you’ll inevitably acquire “The Scars Left by the Giants” while working on The Adventurer. Although this approach is more convenient, you are likely to earn it near the end of your Platinum journey, as maxing out all 42 facilities is the longest undertaking in the game, with The Adventurer often being one of the last facilities you’ll upgrade. Whichever method you choose, whether you go for it right away or save it for the end, both are effective ways to obtain this silver Death Stranding 2 trophy.
