Fishing is all about syncing with the water. To successfully catch a fish, you need to understand its behavior: what it enjoys eating, how it reacts to its surroundings, and whether it’s easily scared. While fishing can be a soothing activity, mastering it requires plenty of patience and expertise. With a plethora of mini fishing games available, it’s only natural for Monster Hunter Wilds to join in on the fun.

Kanya has one final favor to ask, and this time she’s after a creature that expands beyond the typical definition of a fish. This elusive being is quite rare and will demand some travel and a bit of luck to locate. Let’s help Kanya fulfill her quest.

How to Begin the Razzle Dazzle Quest

This quest marks the conclusion of Kanya’s series of fishing challenges, so you’ll need to complete all previous tasks she’s set, including ‘Seeking the Goldenfish‘, ‘Fishing for Flavour‘, and ‘The Catch of a Lifetime‘. Once you’ve finished those, head back to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp to start Razzle Dazzle.

This quest involves searching for a Grand Escunite. Unlike the usual variety, this one is much rarer. The challenge isn’t in fighting them but rather in finding and hooking them in the first place.

Top Locations to Find a Grand Escunite

Like many of Kanya’s fishing tasks, the Scarlet Forest is the prime spot to hunt for the Grand Escunite. Unlike the other fish we’ve previously caught, Escunite prefers the cool, dark corners of caves. The cave near the Wudwud Hideout in Area 12 is one of the best places to find them, hidden behind a waterfall.

While fish are typically harder to find during the Downpour and less visible during the Fallow, these weather changes don’t influence the water in caves.

Grand Escunites and their regular counterparts appear almost identical, with the main difference being their coloration. Regular Escunites sport a green-yellow shell and tentacles, while the Grand variety has a shiny, pearlescent finish. The Grand Escunite tends to visually stand out in the water, making it easier to spot.

However, there’s an exception to their habitat. While the majority live in caves, you can also find them in the vast ocean around Area 17, but only when a Feeding Circle is active.

Optimal Bait for Catching a Grand Escunite

For this quest, Kanya provides a special type of bait called Tentacle Jigs. This bait is specifically tailored to attract creatures with tentacles, making it the best choice for bringing in Escunites.

You can catch a Grand Escunite using the Common Wood Minnow, though it is significantly more challenging to grab their attention.

When it comes to capturing these rarer fish, Grand Escunites prefer a slow reeling motion when the bait is near, as they can be easily startled. However, once they take the bait, you can reel them in swiftly without any resistance. That’s all there is to it! Bring your catch back to Kanya and claim your well-deserved reward. Your fishing adventure is now complete.
