This puzzle involves selecting the three most muscular members from a group of humans dressed as animals. It’s a remake of a sidequest from the original Dragon Quest 7, and it’s been puzzling players for over 25 years.

The challenge is tricky because you’re not given any clues about who is who. You have to use your own observation skills and memory to figure out which animal dressed person is the strongest. Here’s how to finish this guessing game quickly and with less frustration.

How to Start the Animal Guessing Game

To begin, you need to visit L’Arca in the present day. After collecting the correct pieces and completing the past scenario in L’Arca, the island in the present will be unlocked on your map. Travel to this area, then go into the town named L’Arca.

Once you’re there, go to the big house next to the barn where you first met Ruff. Enter the house and talk to the town mayor. He’ll tell you there’s a festival happening, where residents dress up as animals and parade around. The mayor offers you some animal costumes, which you can take by searching a nearby drawer.

Once dressed, step outside and head toward the town’s south entrance. You’ll see a line of animal NPCs preparing for the festival. Talk to the human NPC nearby to start the guessing game.

How to Solve the Guessing Game

The game involves six animals lined up before you. Out of these six, three are very strong, and three are less so. Your goal is to pick out the three strongest ones without making any mistakes. If you pick anyone else by mistake, you’ll have to restart, but you can try as many times as you want without penalties.

There’s no tricky secret to this puzzle—it’s mostly trial and error. Just keep talking to the animals, noting who’s stronger, and remember their identities for the next round. The correct choices are:

The dog (#5)

Select these three, and you will win the game. The prize is a Ruby of Protection, an accessory that boosts your defense by 20 points. You can equip it to any team member in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, making your hero, Kiefer, or Ruff more durable, or boosting Maribel’s defenses.
