If you’re unsure about how to level up in Lies of P, you’re not alone. The game’s system isn’t very clear at first. You’ll gather a lot of Ergo, which is both the experience points and the currency in this Souls-like game. It’s normal to wonder where to spend or save it. The problem is, the game doesn’t let you level up during the initial area, and once it does, the process quickly changes. Here’s what you need to know about leveling up in Lies of P.
You can’t level up until you leave the train station. To do that, you must thoroughly explore the starting area and defeat the giant puppet police officer. That mini-boss drops a key called the Krat Central Station Main Entrance Key, which opens the way to Krat Central Station Plaza. Once outside the station, you’ll notice glowing blue lights ahead. Interacting with these lights will unlock a Stargazer. These objects act as fast travel points and also serve as your respawn spots when you die. Importantly, at this stage, you can use Ergo at Stargazers to level up your character.
However, things get complicated once you arrive at the hotel. When you meet Sophia there, she becomes your new leveling-up point. From this moment on, the Stargazers will only function as fast travel and respawn points. You will need to go back to see Sophia whenever you want to level up, and there’s a handy hotkey in the teleport menu that takes you directly to her, saving some hassle. Once you’ve reached the hotel area—Krat Hotel—the leveling system changes entirely. You will no longer be able to level up at Stargazers. Instead, you’ll need to return to Sophia each time you want to improve your character.
In summary, at the start, level up at Stargazers after leaving the station, but once you get to the hotel, you will need to visit Sophia specifically for leveling up. This new setup continues for the rest of the game, making the process more straightforward once you’re familiar with it.
