Hunter’s March in Silksong can be a very tough area for newcomers, mainly because of a fierce red ant boss that can quickly defeat the unprepared. New players starting in Hollow Knight Silksong will likely come across the entrance to Hunter’s March only to get overwhelmed by the bosses guarding it. Second Entrance or Back Door – There’s a path leading to Deep Docks, but it’s locked from the inside. You’ll need to defeat Skarrgard and circle around to open it. There’s also a route connected to the Swift Step Art, but that’s easier to reach from Deep Docks.
Trapped Bench and Map Location – Two tunnels, one above the other, contain a bench and the cartographer Shakra. Be aware that sitting on the bench will trigger a trap that can hurt you. You need to head west past the bench into a hidden room and hit a lever to disable the trap.
Second Skarrgard Fight – At the top of Hunter’s March, there’s another room where a second Skarrgard boss appears, supported by a flying ant minion. Defeating him rewards you with a bunch of Rosaries, Shell Shards, and completes the Skarrgard entry in the Bestiary.
Savage Beastfly, Chapel of the Beast, and Crest of the Beast – Near the end of this area, you’ll find a small building with a platforming challenge and a boss fight against the Savage Beastfly. Defeating it grants you the Crest of the Beast.

Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter various enemies and gather minor treasures. To fully explore Hunter’s March, you will need the ability to drift and wall jump, which are acquired fairly early in the game.

Is visiting Hunter’s March necessary? Not quite. It’s an optional area in Silksong, and you don’t have to go there to complete the main story. The main goal of visiting is to get the Crest, which unlocks new attack patterns and silk powers. However, you can finish the game without visiting Hunter’s March if you prefer. If you find it too challenging, it’s a good idea to come back later when you’re more confident. No need to push through pain — there’s no deadline, and better gear and skills will make things much smoother.
