Boiled Crab: A Vital Item in Elden Ring
In Elden Ring, Boiled Crab serves as a valuable consumable that significantly boosts your ability to resist physical damage for a limited time. While there are permanent upgrades to enhance your defenses in the game, Boiled Crab is an outstanding addition to any tank-oriented build.
However, procuring Boiled Crab isn’t as straightforward as you might expect. This item is linked to the quest of Blackguard Big Boggart, starting in Liurnia and concluding on Altus Plateau. We’re here to guide you through this process, enabling you to acquire a seemingly endless supply of Boiled Crabs in the game.
Locating Blackguard Big Boggart in Liurnia
You can obtain Boiled Crab by purchasing it for 600 Runes each from Blackguard Big Boggart, once he relocates to Leyndell and sets up his shop.
Important Note: For Boggart to move to Altus Plateau, you need to complete his questline.
Boggart’s quest is directly associated with Rya’s quest. You can find Rya in the central part of the Liurnia of the Lakes, situated inside a dome just north of the Lakysar Ruins site of grace. This area is marked on the Liurnia map with a telescope icon. Speak with Rya, and she will mention that a thief has stolen her necklace, asking you for assistance in retrieving it.
To track down the thief, head northwest from Rya’s location until you discover a dilapidated shack known as the Boilprawn Shack, where Blackguard Big Boggart resides.
You have the option to either attack Boggart or converse with him to get the necklace back. Be warned: attacking him will lock you out of his quest, preventing you from acquiring Boiled Crab until your next playthrough.
Speak to Boggart and offer him 1,000 Runes. He will then return Rya’s necklace to you. Bring the necklace back to Rya, complete her dialogue, and then return to Boggart to purchase some Boiled Prawns from him. This interaction will trigger new dialogues and reveal his plan to move to Leyndell, the Royal Capital.
Caution: If you visit Volcano Manor before finding and interacting with Blackguard Big Boggart and purchasing Boiled Prawns, the quest may become bugged, preventing him from moving to Altus Plateau.
Purchasing Boiled Crab from Boggart on Altus Plateau
Once you’ve built rapport with Boggart, he will relocate near the entrance to Leyndell. To find him, start from the Outer Wall Battleground site of grace and head east toward the moat. Instead of heading directly to the entrance, go down the hill to spot Boggart sitting by the moat. Speak to him to buy an unlimited supply of Boiled Crabs, each costing 600 Runes.
If you accidentally kill Blackguard Big Boggart near Leyndell, you can still purchase Boiled Crabs and Boiled Prawns from the Twin Maiden Husk in the Roundtable Hold by offering his Bell Bearings. However, defeating him in Liurnia will only allow you to buy Boiled Prawns, potentially preventing you from acquiring Boiled Crabs until you start a new playthrough.
How to Use Boiled Crab and its Advantages Over Boiled Prawns
In Elden Ring, consuming Boiled Crab grants an impressive 20% physical damage negation for 60 seconds (15% in PvP), boosting your existing defenses based on your equipment and talismans.
This is particularly beneficial when facing formidable bosses like Godfrey, the first Elden Lord, and the Elden Beast, whose attacks can significantly deplete your health. In challenging fights, every bit of health is crucial, and Boiled Crab offers substantial protection.
In comparison, Boiled Prawns only provide 15% physical damage negation. While they are also useful, the extra percentage you gain from Boiled Crab can make a crucial difference in boss battles. Therefore, it’s advisable to opt for Boiled Crab whenever possible in Elden Ring.
