Hitting a baseball is one of the toughest tasks in professional sports. A batter needs to quickly evaluate the pitch, determine if it’s a ball or a strike, and make a split-second decision to swing. While this requires exceptional mental skills in real life, video games simplify the experience, allowing us to enjoy the excitement without the same level of precision.
MLB The Show 25 introduces a fresh mechanic called ambush hitting that can enhance your performance at the plate. When executed correctly, it can significantly boost your offensive capabilities. Here’s how to take advantage of this new feature.
What Is Ambush Hitting?
Ambush hitting is a risk-reward mechanic you can activate while batting. When you step into the batter’s box, you’ll have the chance to predict whether the pitcher will throw inside or outside the strike zone.
If you make an accurate guess, your Plate Coverage Indicator (PCI) will expand, making it easier to connect with the ball and providing a wider timing window for your swing. However, if you guess incorrectly, the PCI will shrink, making it much harder to get a hit.
Ambush hitting can only be performed using the zone-hitting interface.
How To Ambush Hit
As you prepare for a pitch, you will be able to choose either the left or right side of the plate using the Right Stick. Flick the stick in the direction you expect the pitch to go (it will be highlighted in soft white), then place your PCI on that side of the plate and press the swing button to try and make contact.
As the at-bat progresses, pay attention to your opponent’s preferred pitch types and locations. Use this knowledge to guide your ambush strategy so you can start creating some big scoring opportunities!
If you achieve ten hits using ambush hitting, you will unlock the Going Pro trophy.
