Just before the weekend, Sony quietly rolled out a new PlayStation Store update that PS5 and PS4 gamers have been eagerly waiting for. After years of neglect, several notorious publishers known for shovelware have been banned from the storefront, and their games have been removed entirely.
We know what you’re thinking, and yes, we’ve seen this before. But this time is different. This marks the third such update this year, and it’s only been a couple of weeks since Sony took down a large batch of low-quality titles again.
The publishers targeted in these updates are ones that had managed to avoid Sony bans for years and had somehow survived previous crackdowns. Back in January, ThiGames — the team behind Jumping Burrito, Pizza, Taco, and similar titles — was banned. Then in late March, thousands of low-effort games from CGI Lab and Nostra Games were wiped from the store.
Most recently, as reported by PSNProfiles users, entire catalogs from shovelware studios GoGame Console Publisher, VRCForge, and Welding Byte have been removed. In an Easter surprise, Sony didn’t even spare the long-standing “Jesus Simulator,” which had been available on the PS Store for quite some time.
It seems Sony is finally serious about cleaning up the storefront. Interestingly, you haven’t been seeing those trash titles cluttering the PS Store’s sales as much lately!
