Crests can significantly change how you play Hollow Knight: Silksong. They totally flip your attack styles and accessory slots, making Hornet play very differently. The Crest you have on determines your basic melee attack style, and each one has a few color-coded slots for your tools.
Some players may choose a favorite Crest at the start and stick with it all the way through. But certain areas and tough bosses are best taken on with a specific Crest equipped. If you’re having trouble finding a particular one or want to collect them all, here are the locations of all seven Crests we know so far in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Hunter Crest
The default Crest
This Crest comes automatically from the very beginning of the game. You don’t need to unlock it — it’s equipped right away.
The Hunter Crest has balanced slots: one each for white, red, yellow, and blue tools. Its only downside is a diagonally downward attack that can be tricky to use in some platforming sections.
Wanderer Crest
Speed and Support
The Wanderer Crest is located underneath the early-game area called Moss Grotto. You’ll need a Simple Key to unlock it, which you can buy from Pebb in Bone Bottom for 500 Rosaries — a lot to farm, so many players prefer to wait and return later.
To get to it, go west of the indicated map point, unlock the Bonegrave, and follow the path to claim this Crest. It starts with two yellow slots, one red, and one white. It’s great for support builds and speed-focused players.
Reaper Crest
Strong in combat
Reach the Greymoor region and head west to the Chapel of the Reaper. Complete the arena battle there and climb to the top for the Reaper Crest.
This Crest is more fight-oriented, letting Hornet deal heavy hits. It also boosts silk buildup from defeated enemies. Like the Hunter Crest, it has one tool slot per color but is easier to use for downward jumps, making it ideal for pogo sections.
Beast Crest
Life-stealing power
Find it in Hunter’s March, inside the Chapel of the Beast at the southeastern end of that area. You’ll have to beat the Savage Beastfly to reach it. If you need help navigating Hunter’s March, you can check our map guide.
Starting with one white slot and two red, the Beast Crest can later be upgraded to add yellow slots, but no blue ones. Its special feature is a life-stealing attack, allowing Hornet to heal herself while attacking enemies.
Witch Crest
Exclusive to Act 2
To get this Crest, complete the quests “Rite of Rebirth” in Shellwood and “Infestation Operation” in Greymoor — part of the Twisted Root story, which is only available in Act Two.
After finishing these, go back to Greyroot in Greymoor to unlock the powers of the Twisted Root, including the Witch Crest. It starts with one white, one red, and one blue slot, and can be upgraded later to add more blue and red slots. It allows summoning Twisted Root extensions to steal health from enemies.
Architect Crest
Crafting and damage focus
Head just east of the indicated map point in the Underworks to meet the Twelfth Architect, who sells the Architect’s Key for 110 Rosaries. You need at least 25 tools to buy it.
Use the key to reach the northern part of The Cauldron and unlock the Chapel of the Architect. This Crest focuses on damage, letting you twist your needle into enemies, similar to a drill, and craft tools on the fly by spending Silk.
It starts with three red tool slots and can be upgraded to include blue and yellow slots later.
Shaman Crest
Powerful support ability
The last known Crest in Silksong is the Shaman Crest, available only after reaching Act Three. To find it, go to the location just after you get Silk Soar — then run right into the next screen.
Use your Silk Skills to break through to a higher platform, then follow the path through spikes and down into a deep pit. At the bottom, you’ll find the Shaman Crest.
This Crest allows you to equip three Silk Skills at once, with a slight upgrade to each, but it only has two blue slots. It’s a versatile choice for players who want the most support options.
And that’s all the Crests known so far in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Each one can dramatically change your playstyle, so it’s worth trying each at least once to see which fits your approach best.
