Pokémon GO continues to engage players with a variety of events, and kicking off May is the Growing Up Event. While this event won’t feature any new Pokémon debuts, it’s still worth marking on your calendar. Many of the Pokémon appearing in the wild will need several hundred candies for evolution, making it a great opportunity to gather them.
This event will stretch over almost a week, providing ample time for participation, even for those with hectic schedules. However, don’t leave it to the last minute; you might fall short on what you need to evolve these Pokémon. Alongside the main event, there will be special field and research tasks to complete within the event timeframe.
Growing Up Event Schedule
You Have Six Days to Complete the Event
The Growing Up Event runs from Friday, May 2nd, at 10 am to Wednesday, May 7th, at 8 pm local time. Keep in mind that hatch collection tasks will take place during this event, so be sure to maximize your walking to hatch as many eggs as possible in Pokémon GO.
During this event, bonuses will include double XP for evolving Pokémon, double candy for hatching eggs, an increased chance of shiny Wimpod, and higher chances of encountering shiny Magikarp, Swablu, and Wimpod in the wild. You’ll also have increased chances of finding XXS and XXL Pokémon.
Region-specific bonuses will be available to players in Japan and Korea, such as additional research tasks, double Stardust for catching Pokémon, and half the distance needed to hatch eggs that are incubated during the event. These bonuses will be accessible from Sunday, May 4, at 10 a.m. to Monday, May 5, at 8 p.m. local time.
All Wild Spawns During the Growing Up Event
A Wide Variety of Small Pokémon with Big Returns
Throughout this event, nine different Pokémon will spawn more often in the wild, and many will have shiny variants. These Pokémon include:
- Magikarp
- Wailmer
- Swablu
- Wimpod
- Foongus
- Dedenne
- Cutiefly
- Rookidee (note: this Pokémon doesn’t have shiny variants)
- Nymble
While they might seem ordinary at first, several of these Pokémon require over the usual 25/50/100 Candy for evolution. For example, Swablu requires a hefty 400 candies to evolve. Given that each catch typically grants only three candies, or six during events, this makes it a significant challenge for players.
Utilize Pinap Berries during the event to double the candy earned when catching Pokémon. Combined with the event benefits, a successful catch with a Pinap Berry yields 12 candies.
There are other methods to increase candy counts, like having Pokémon as buddies or using Rare Candy, but these can be tedious and usually aren’t worth it unless you’re just short a few candies for an evolution.
All Pokémon Egg Hatches During the Growing Up Event
Get Your Steps In to Hatch These Exciting Pokémon
As part of the Growing Up event, unique Pokémon will be available for hatching from three different egg types. The following changes apply:
|
Egg Type |
Pokémon |
|---|---|

2km Eggs |
Happiny |
|
Riolu |
|
|
Wimpod |
|
|
5km Eggs |
Mime Jr. |
|
10km Eggs |
Toxel |
All Pokémon featured in eggs during this event can potentially be shiny. Additionally, a Hatch Collection Challenge will take place, providing unique rewards for those who manage to hatch the required Pokémon. To improve your chances, try to collect as many incubators as you can to hatch multiple eggs at once.
Players should also gather eggs for hatching. The primary method of obtaining them is through spinning Poké Stops, but you can also get them as gifts from friends. However, the type of egg you receive is random, so you cannot predict whether it will be a 2km, 5km, or 10km egg, or which Pokémon will hatch from it.
All Growing Up Event Rewards
XP, Stardust, Unique Encounters, & More
Although there will be no raids during the event, plenty of rewards are still available. As with any event, there will be Field Research tasks and Paid Timed Research for those who purchase a ticket. Field Research rewards will feature encounters with event-themed Pokémon, while Paid Timed Research rewards will include an incubator, Pinap Berries, 3,000 Stardust, and themed avatar items.
For the egg-related collection challenge, players can earn XP, Stardust, and a special encounter with Tandemaus by completing the required hatches. Additionally, there will be PokéStop showcases where players can earn rewards based on their rankings. If you’re in Japan or Korea, the regional bonus also includes a Lucario that knows the move Force Palm when you evolve a Riolu.
As you engage in the Pokémon GO Growing Up Event, remember that all rewards will expire at the event’s conclusion. Be sure to claim them by May 7th, 2025, at 8 pm local time to avoid losing them.
