Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is a strategic card game set in the Shadowverse universe. With breathtaking visuals, various gameplay modes, and an array of classes, it offers a rich experience for players.
Whether you want to climb the ranks, explore the story mode, or chat with other players in the Park lobby, we’ve compiled some handy tips for beginners to jumpstart your adventure and have a great time.
Don’t Skip the Tutorials
The tutorials serve a crucial purpose: they teach you how to play the game. Completing these tutorials leads to rewards that can be used for buying card packs in the game store.
Additionally, there are battle tutorials for all classes, with variations for some. These tutorials are perfect for learning how to effectively use the cards within each class. You can experiment with or create decks for any class whenever you want. The nine available classes are:
- Forestcraft
- Swordcraft
- Runecraft
- Dragoncraft
- Abysscraft
- Havencraft
- Portalcraft
Pay Attention to Evolves and Super Evolves
As you progress through the early tutorials, you’ll discover the mechanics of Evolve and Super Evolve. These abilities can enhance your cards already in play.
Some cards have special abilities or buffs that activate only when they are Evolved or Super Evolved. If you’ve included these cards in your deck mainly for those enhancements, it’s wise to hold off on using them until you unlock Evolve and Super Evolve, as premature play can result in losing valuable cards.
Keep in mind that you only have two Evolves and two Super Evolves per game, and they cannot be used in the same turn. With practice, you’ll learn the best moments to unleash these special abilities.
Understand Enhance, Engage, Overflow, and Other Conditions
In addition to Evolve and Super Evolve skills, many cards possess buffs activated by specific conditions.
Take the example of the Hound of War card, which costs three play points. It features this ability:
- Enhance (6): Summon 2 copies of Hound of War.
Typically, you’d use three play points to deploy this card. But, if you have at least six play points available, you can spend them to play the card while summoning two extra Hound of War cards, resulting in three followers on the board instead of one.
This is just the beginning. Some conditions may vary by class, so as you explore the different classes, it’s essential to understand these conditions and how to leverage them.
Stick with Beginner-Friendly Classes Initially
As you learn to battle, it’s beneficial to concentrate on the beginner-friendly classes first before branching out.
The most accessible classes for new players are Swordcraft, Forestcraft, and Portalcraft. These classes feature cards that are easier to understand, while classes like Dragoncraft or Runecraft have more complex mechanics to master.
In your early gameplay, the system provides you with pre-built decks to use while you earn cards and become familiar with the game, which is a great way to ease into it.
Learn How to Build Your Own Deck
While using pre-built decks is helpful at first, they may start to feel inadequate over time. As you make progress and gather more resources like rupees, card pack tickets, and vials, you’ll be able to acquire and create stronger cards.
You can then modify your saved pre-built decks or, if you’re feeling adventurous, build your own deck from scratch.
When creating a deck, aim for a good mix of low, medium, and high-cost cards. Support cards that can replenish defenses or draw additional cards can be as crucial as your heavy-hitting cards.
Your deck must contain 40 cards (not more, not less) to be eligible for battle, and mixing classes is not allowed. For instance, if you’re crafting a Dragoncraft deck, you can only use Dragoncraft and Neutral cards.
You Don’t Have to Play Ranked Matches If You Don’t Want To
If you’re not focused on climbing the competitive ranks, or if you want to practice more before jumping into ranked matches, there’s no need to stress! Ranked matches aren’t the only option in Shadowverse.
You can play against bots in solo mode, which is excellent for testing out different classes and strategizing. Additionally, unranked multiplayer matches won’t affect your rank, regardless of whether you win or lose.
There’s also Park mode, where you can create an avatar to explore, decorate your home, engage in casual matches, or hang out in your guild’s lounge. Lastly, in the Arena, you can take part in various tournaments for different prizes, but be sure to check the tournament schedule so you’re ready to participate.
Give Story Mode a Chance
Although Story Mode lacks traditional gameplay, it’s an excellent way to discover the class leaders and their abilities. The mode unfolds like a visual graphic novel, featuring stunning artwork and voice acting.
Once you complete the prologue, you’ll follow the characters’ journeys, learning how their stories relate to each class’s cards. This knowledge can provide you with valuable insights into utilizing those cards and their special skills during battles.
