In Lies of P: Overture, side quests usually reward players with significant combat items or collectibles. However, Salao’s side quest stands out as an exception. Though the rewards are minimal, most of what you’ll engage with contributes to the story and evokes emotions.
Salao’s narrative mirrors that of Moby Dick; he has devoted his life to catching one extraordinary fish. Once he’s succeeded, there’s just one last task for you. Your choice to be truthful or deceptive at the end will shape the meaning of that task.
How to Begin Salao’s Quest
You can find Salao along the shore near the Shipwreck Exterior Stargazer. To reach him:
- Head north towards the ship and the vault you should have opened earlier.
- Follow the ice until you notice the light from Salao’s lamp.
- Salao will be lying on the ground next to the fish he harpooned.
Once you meet Salao, he will share his troubles about capturing this fish and the bet he made regarding his success.
He’ll ask you to retrieve the bottle of beer he used as collateral for his debt. Accept his request.
It’s not necessary to explore all of Salao’s dialogue for the quest to continue. Simply ask what you need to help him.
How to Locate Salao’s Beer
Continue beyond Salao’s location, and you will eventually reach the fishing village he mentioned. Unfortunately, this place is now filled with corpses.
Since there’s nothing left for you there, keep moving through the village until you reach the Lighthouse.
Climb the stairs until you find a room with a metal shelf against the back wall. Collect the items on the shelf, which include:
- Young Fisherman’s Letter
- Old Bottle of Beer
Now that you have the beer, you can return to Salao.
This lighthouse is also connected to the Black Rabbit Brotherhood and Rosaura side quests, making it worth exploring further.
Should I Be Honest with Salao?
When you go back to Salao, he will express gratitude for the beer and inquire about the villagers’ fate.
At this point, you will need to decide if you want to tell the truth or lie:
Everyone in the village was impressed with your catch (Lie). |
Salao reminisces with a smile before he dies, giving you the Fisherman’s Weathered Key. |
---|---|
Everyone in the village is dead (Truth). |
Salao mourns the villagers and falls into despair just before his death. You receive no reward. |
If you chose to deceive Salao, you can use the Fisherman’s Weathered Key in the fishing village. Go back to the Lighthouse Stargazer and head to the house on the left.
From here:
- Use the key to unlock the front door.
- Enter Salao’s home.
- On the left side of the bed, you will find the body of a woman.
- Collect the Old Fisherman’s Letter.
- Read the letter.
Once you read the letter, you will gain some Humanity. This will officially complete the quest.
