Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has just been released, bringing a variety of alien creatures to battle, complex puzzles to solve, and shadowy corridors to explore. Set on a dangerous alien world, players will lead Samus Aran through six unique zones, each offering its own upgrades, special abilities, and challenges that must be overcome.

A key part of your arsenal will be the three elemental types of Samus’s cannon: Fire Shot, Ice Shot, and Thunder Shot. Each of these can be upgraded twice to enhance their power. Below are the locations where you can find the necessary chips and shrine spots to upgrade your weapons.

### How to Get the Flame Chip and Fire Shot Upgrades

The first elemental shot you unlock is the Fire Shot, found early in the Flare Pool. After you try crossing a collapsing bridge, returning to your starting path will trigger robotic enemies to emerge from a locked door. After defeating them, head to the Scrapyard and eliminate the group of Pyremites hanging around. Climb the central crane, roll into a Morph Ball at the end, and plant a bomb to dislodge the plasma cutter. Inspecting this will give you the Fire Chip, which you can bring to Engineer MacKenzie to upgrade to the Flame Shot.

#### How to Get the Charged Flame Shot

The first upgrade for the Flame Shot appears in the Rings of Stone Shrine, located southeast of the Ice Belt. Inside, find the room with embedded stone rings on the floor and scan them. When they rise, turn on your visor and fire a control beam through the rotating rings. This action slows time and lets you guide a projectile between the rings into a floating object in the middle. Hitting the target creates an elevator you can ride to the next level. Once there, approach the podium to claim your upgrade, and shoot the hole above the entrance to unlock a Shot Expansion.

#### How to Get the Super Fire Shot

In the Ladder of Thought Shrine, located north of Valley Green, you only need the Flame Shot to complete it. Enter the main chamber filled with webs, clear all webs with your Flame Shot, then use your psychic ability to raise a pillar. Jump onto it, raise it again, and repeat to reach the platform overhead. Use a Bomb Jump to reach the right hole and grab the Energy Tank inside. The Super Fire Shot is a potent upgrade available here.

### How to Get the Ice Chip and Ice Shot Upgrades

The Ice Chip is gained after activating the power in the Ice Belt station and defeating its boss. Return to the Loading Crane at the level’s start, climb to the second floor, and use a Missile to break a cracked window. Firing your visor through the hole allows you to direct a control beam to a glowing button on a locked door, opening access. Approach the Boost Ball hologram, turn into a Morph Ball, and repeatedly press B to make the crane lower the container. Interact with it to collect the Ice Chip.

#### How to Get the Charged Ice Shot

Located in the Source of Spring Shrine on the southeast side of the map, this shrine is accessible once you have the Thunder Shot to open the door. Navigate the room by dragging stones into position with psychic powers, freezing waterfalls to lower platforms and unlock a path. The Charged Ice Shot is obtained after solving the platform puzzle, which involves freezing waterfalls to move stones and open new routes, including a nearby Missile Expansion behind a hole.

#### How to Get the Super Ice Shot

In the Floating Path Shrine, northwest of the Volt Forge, you need the Thunder Shot to gain entry. Inside, activate the two Psychic Orbs to extend stone platforms forming a walkway. Cross carefully, grab an orb, throw it into a socket, and reach the chamber to claim the Super Ice Shot. There’s also a Shot Expansion available on the lower level of the main puzzle chamber by placing a stone in a nearby statue.

### How to Get the Thunder Chip and Thunder Shot Upgrades

The Thunder Chip is close to the last, and highly visible on your map. After acquiring the Psychic Grapple, revisit the Volt Forge and go to the deepest part of Tower 1’s Power Core. Interact with a short-circuiting pylon in the back left corner to snag the Thunder Chip and trigger a boss fight.

#### How to Get the Charged Thunder Shot

Found in the Falling Labyrinth Shrine northeast of the Chrono Tower, this location requires a bit of skill. As you progress, reach a room with a ceiling socket for a Psychic Ball. Activate it to spawn Psychic Spider Tracks along the walls. Carefully navigate these tracks without being hit by the spiders, which keep respawning. Moving slowly and outrunning the enemies is essential to reach the top, where the prize floats beside a statue. You’ll need to shoot the stone pillars with the Thunder Shot to create an electrified ring activating the elevator to the final upgrade.

#### How to Get the Super Thunder Shot

Located in the Ring of Thunder shrine southeast of the Chrono Tower, this shrine is straightforward. Pull the two stone pillars from the ground, then shoot them with the Thunder Shot to activate an electric ring. Stepping into the ring powers up your final elemental upgrade, making you ready to face any enemy with confidence.
