Radiation in Abiotic Factor
Radiation is a serious danger in both real life and in the game Abiotic Factor. You’ll encounter alien worlds filled with natural radiation, which is everywhere. You will need to use parts of aliens and their meat to survive, but these foods are often contaminated with radiation.
The radiation-laced meats are some of the best foods early in the game. But, by eating them, you risk increasing your radiation levels. You’ll also explore alien planets and contaminated areas filled with radioactive waste. If you don’t control radiation, it can damage your character and make you sick.
How To Deal With Radiation
Radiation is one of several negative effects you will face. If you don’t handle it properly, it can lead to three stages of sickness: Radiation Tingle, Radiation Sickness, and Irradiated Status. When affected, you’ll see a warning near your health bar and in the menu under health issues.
Tips for Reducing Radiation
Early in the game, the best way to protect yourself is by wearing a Lead Vest. You can find one in Bio Lab D or on the catwalk leading to another world through the Level Three portal. The vest reduces incoming radiation while worn.
Dealing with the last two stages of radiation sickness can be deadly, especially if you’re attacked while sick. Vomiting from high radiation levels can cause you to lose health rapidly, and if you’re alone, it might be a quick path to death.
Radiation Debuff Details
Debuff | When It Happens | Effects |
---|---|---|
Radiation Tingle | Rad absorption exceeds 6 | No effects |
Radiation Sickness | Rad absorption exceeds 35 | Causes vomiting, reducing hunger and thirst by 25% each time. Effect stops after vomiting twice and can be re-triggered. |
Irradiated | Rad absorption exceeds 50 | Causes vomiting, reducing hunger and thirst by 25% each time. Effect stops after vomiting twice and can be re-triggered. |
How to Reduce Radiation
The quickest way to lower radiation is by taking Iodine Tablets. They remove 10 radiation points and give a Rad Resistance buff that reduces incoming radiation by 50% for a few minutes.
You can find these tablets frequently in First Aid Kits or at specific locations like the Portal Entrance to A2 on Level Three.
Renewable Radiation Removal Options
Another way to cure radiation is by crafting Pentetic Acid Syringes. These syringes also remove 10 radiation and grant Rad Resistance. They are renewable once you reach First Aid level four and craft them using only four ingredients that respawn regularly.
Ingredients for Pentetic Acid Syringe
- Hydrochloric Acid – found in Bio Lab D, gyms, locker rooms, data farms, and supply rooms
- Enethiol – available in Bio Lab D, supply rooms, and boxes in Office sectors
- Salt – located in Bio Lab D, kitchen areas, and cabinets
- Metal Scrap – found in filing cabinets, from dismantling vents, or destroying security robots
Fishing for Radfish
The second renewable method is fishing for Radfish in radioactive waste areas like Manufacturing West. After catching it, you can butcher the fish at the Chef’s Counter. This process yields one Green Fish Liver and two Rad Fish Fillets.
Green Fish Liver acts like Iodine Tablets, removing 10 radiation points and providing Rad Resistance. Rad Fish Fillets can be cooked into two meals: Radfish Chowder and Rad Rice Bowl. Both foods boost Rad Resistance and restore hunger and thirst.
Additional Notes
While Iodine Tablets aren’t as renewable as Green Fish Liver, you can stockpile them early from Medkits in the Office area and in the Portal World Rise. Rad Fish Fillets serve as a good food source that also helps with radiation management, but for ongoing prevention, Iodine Tablets, Green Fish Liver, and Syringes are your best options to remove radiation completely.
