The enchanting world of Where Winds Meet is full of magic and discovery, blending mythical adventures with rich RPG gameplay. As with other parts of the map, the sandy desert area called Hexi offers many paths to follow the main story.
You can focus on completing quests one after another or take your time to explore and learn more about the world around you. For example, the side quest titled “A Tassel and a Tale” is just one of many smaller stories you can pursue, and completing it unlocks additional content.
How to Get the Red Tassel
While exploring the Ayisu area in the Jade Gate Pass region of Hexi, you’ll come across a side quest called A Tassel and a Tale. It becomes available as you explore the Squarewall Hold Ruins Boundary Stone. Here, you’ll meet a man named Li, sitting just in front of the Boundary Stone. He talks about red tassels that need collecting but says he will only give his to someone called Granny Pan.
Although you’ll ask Li for the tassel multiple times, he won’t hand it over. If you back away far enough so he can’t see you and then position yourself behind him, you can use a special skill called “Celestial Sieze” to quietly take the tassel from his pocket without him noticing. After that, you can deliver the red tassel directly to Granny Pan.
Note: Be cautious if you venture too deep into the Squarewall Hold Ruins village—there are aggressive Utuk Raptors nearby that you won’t be able to defeat yet.
How to Find Granny Pan
To locate Granny Pan, head northeast from the Boundary Stone in Squarewall Hold towards the Heroic Tomb. There, you will find Granny Pan and Young Yichao among the red flowers. They will share the story behind the red tassels and explain how collecting them honors the departed.

After speaking with them, Granny Pan will ask you to hang the tassel onto a spear nearby. Doing this begins the quest called The Final Retreat, which takes place back in the Squarewall Hold Ruins village. Completing this quest helps remove the dangers blocking access to the area, making it safer to explore.
