Absolum is a highly difficult game in every way. Even if you’re experienced with beat ’em ups and roguelites, you’ll likely find it tough to handle their combined strength.
Getting to Sun King Azra in Absolum isn’t the final step, contrary to what you might assume when starting the game. There’s an even stronger enemy waiting behind the scenes — the secret final boss that unlocks the true ending of the game.
How to Reach Absolum’s True Final Boss
To face Absolum, who is actually the final boss, you need to complete a full run of the game for the first time. This means reaching Asterios and defeating Sun King Azra. Achieving this is no small feat and generally requires a long time and a fully upgraded team of characters.
After defeating Sun King Azra and unlocking the Ritual of Time, you enter the game’s epilogue. From this point, strange portals open and spawn enemies from across the map, drastically increasing the difficulty. Your next goal is to defeat Absolum himself and save Talamh, but you must first reach him.
Reaching the Final Boss Again
To confront Absolum a second time, you must do another full game run and make it back to Sun King Azra. This time, however, you must be prepared to have a Mother’s Grace saved up to revive you if Absolum kills you at the start. Without a Grace, the run ends immediately.
There’s an option to buy a Grace from a vendor in Asterios for 800 coins if you’re running low. A better strategy is to spend Crystals to unlock the second Grace—this will make it significantly easier to reach Absolum without dying and losing your Grace.
How to Achieve the True Ending
Once you get to Absolum holding a Mother’s Grace, the game will trigger a screen wipe and begin the most difficult boss battle. Absolum possesses some of the strongest attacks in the game and can heal itself during the fight, turning it into a grueling endurance match. Beating him requires a well-prepared arsenal of Rituals and items; you’ll need an exceptionally powerful setup.
It’s best to wait until you are confident with your character—Karl, for example, is quite strong once upgraded—and have bought all permanent upgrades with Crystals. Even then, Absolum remains a challenging boss that demands skill, especially if you’ve mastered Clashing mechanics.
If you’re struggling with the fight, there’s a tip: go into Assist Options within the game. You can reduce the damage you take or increase the damage you deal, making the fight a bit more manageable.
Defeating Absolum and Unlocking the True Ending
After defeating Absolum, the game’s true ending plays out. You’ll earn a trophy and a new ending that resets the timeline to just before you beat him, letting you enjoy endless runs. Given how long it takes to beat Absolum, you might want to take a break afterward.
