“Where Winds Meet” is packed with so many activities that your head might feel overwhelmed. The constant stream of mechanics and options can make it hard to focus, and even once you pick a task, there are still layers of details to juggle.
For example, consider the “Gift of Gab” minigame. It’s one of the more complicated parts of the game because it simulates a debate. It’s timed, and you have to choose your words carefully. The game doesn’t do a great job explaining how it works, but don’t worry — we will break it down for you.
What Is The Gift Of Gab Minigame?
The Gift of Gab is a card-based minigame that resembles conversation and dialogue choices. The cards determine what you say and how effective your argument is. During debates, occasionally, you’ll encounter NPCs willing to argue. By playing this minigame, you can out-debate them and earn rewards.
Cards appear randomly throughout the debate. Each card has a point value, which shows how many inspiration points it costs to play, and a specific effect, which you can see by highlighting the card. As you use cards, new ones are added to your deck, so it won’t run out.
You can take as long as you want to respond because your Inspiration refills in real-time. Your opponent’s Inspiration does the same.
The main goal is to reduce your opponent’s Mental Focus — the white bar above their head — to zero. There are other mechanics, but that’s the core idea: pick the right cards to drain Mental Focus, manage your Inspiration points, and try to win.
The Types Of The Gift Of Gab
There are two main types of debate styles in the minigame. Most players will use the Rhetoric Duel, but some will choose Free Persuasion.
Free Persuasion
In this mode, you argue directly with an AI chatbot. This can be unpredictable, especially on consoles without a keyboard. There’s no strict winning strategy — just argue your points. Because the AI is built to placate, you can often just ask it to let you win.
Rhetoric Duel
This is the primary mode and uses the mechanics explained earlier. You debate your opponent by playing cards, while watching your Inspiration points. You cannot regain Mental Focus during these duels, so choosing your words carefully is essential.
How To Play The Gift Of Gab
When you find an opponent eager to debate, talk to them to start the minigame. There are some additional key details to keep in mind.
Styles
Before the debate begins, you select a style from four options:
- Bluster – counters Provocation
- Provocation – counters Rebuttal
- Rebuttal – counters Filibuster
- Filibuster – counters Bluster
You see your opponent’s style before starting, which helps you pick the best counter. Usually, the game suggests the most effective style, but you can choose to challenge yourself by picking differently. Once you lock in a style, it stays the same; you can’t switch mid-debate.
Inspiration
Inspiration is your main resource. It refills naturally over time and is spent when you play cards. Stronger cards cost more Inspiration, so you need to balance your plays. Keep an eye on your Inspiration level and have backup cards ready if you’re running low. Some cards can also boost how quickly Inspiration recovers.
Trash Talk
This system is a little confusing due to translation issues. It’s sometimes called Rebuttal in tutorials, but it should be “Trash Talk.” During debates, timed prompts called Trash Talk can appear on either side. When they do, press the highlighted button to choose from three options, each with a unique effect. The best part — these prompts are free to activate, so use them whenever possible.
Some cards can encourage Trash Talk prompts to happen more often, so consider this when building your deck.
Cards
Cards are the core of the minigame. They allow you to damage the opponent’s Mental Focus, and many also provide buffs or other effects. For instance, some cards increase the chances of Trash Talk, boost your defenses, weaken your opponent, or even regain Inspiration right away. You don’t pick which cards you get; new ones are provided after using up your current hand.
Success depends on balancing direct damage with stacking beneficial effects to amplify your overall power.
How To Improve Your Performance
Sometimes, it’s not just about skill but also about damage output. To get better at Gift of Gab, consider pursuing the Scholar Legacy path, which enhances your debating ability.
You can also unlock perks that boost your skills. Most come naturally as you level up your main attributes, but if you’re aiming for specific ones, check their requirements to work towards unlocking them.
