If you’re hesitant to go through the game alone or have a friend or partner who wants to join your gaming experience without starting from scratch, Little Nightmares 3 offers multiplayer options. This is the first time players can enjoy a Little Nightmares game with a friend.
Here’s what you need to know about playing with others, how multiplayer works, how the Friend’s Pass functions, and how many people need to own the game to play together.
### How Does Multiplayer Work?
For the first time, you can complete a Little Nightmares game in co-op mode. Little Nightmares 3 emphasizes teamwork, allowing you to create a session with a friend and play through the entire campaign together, solving puzzles and escaping danger.
Each player controls a character—either Low or Alone—during the game. To start a multiplayer session, launch the game and press the start button. At the main menu, select the option for multiplayer. The game will set up a session and ask you to invite friends to join.
Once your friend accepts the invitation, you’ll see a message that says “Syncing with your friend.” After syncing, you’ll join a multiplayer game. The host chooses their character, and the adventure begins.
### Is There Crossplay and Solo Play?
You can play the full game solo, with the AI controlling the other character. However, Little Nightmares 3 does not support crossplay, so both players need to be on the same platform to play online together.
Note that the game does not support local couch co-op; multiplayer gameplay is only available online.
### How to Play For Free With a Friend’s Pass
If you want to try playing with a friend, neither of you needs to own the game to start with a Friend’s Pass and enjoy the free trial. If one person owns the full game, they can invite the other to join a multiplayer session and play the entire game.
Here are the options:
| Scenario | How to Play | Details |
| — | — | — |
| One person owns the game | Send friends an invite from the main menu | Play the full campaign together |
| Neither owns the game | Both download the free trial & Friend’s Pass, then invite each other | Play a 30-minute trial together |
If both players own the game, they can simply invite each other to join a session as usual. Keep in mind, the non-owner cannot play the game alone—they’ll need to purchase their own copy if they want to play solo later. Also, since there’s no cross-platform play, both players must be on the same system.
Remember, multiplayer sessions can’t be transferred to single-player play, so starting a multiplayer game means you’ll need to restart if you want to switch to solo mode later. Progress from multiplayer won’t carry over to a single-player session.
If you want to run the game solo later, you’ll need to buy the same platform version as your friend and start a new game.
