If you thought Elden Ring: Nightreign was missing a support character, there’s good news. The Forsaken Hollows added two new characters, including Scholar. He introduces a new playstyle focused not on dealing massive damage, but on supporting allies and applying debuffs to enemies.

Understanding how to use Analyze and the best times to activate his Ultimate Art can be challenging. Since Scholar is a Nightfarer who scales with Arcane, it might take a moment to get used to. Don’t worry – here are the top tips for building a Scholar in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

### Scholar’s Skill Overview
Scholar’s Passive is called Bagcraft. It allows you to carry more items and level them up. You still have four slots in your pouch, but now you can hold four of the same item (others can only carry two). As you use items, their efficiency improves, and sometimes they gain extra effects.

For example, a level 2 Starlight Shard restores more FP, while a level 3 one increases your maximum FP. The highest level for all items is level 3. You’ll get notifications when an item levels up, often accompanied by a color mark on the item to show its level.

You might not use many items with other classes, but with Scholar, a different approach is encouraged. Using relics that give you starting items can help level them faster during gameplay.

### Analyze Skill
Analyze is a key ability. When activated, the screen changes, and circles appear around enemies and allies. Analyzing enemies (their circles fill with red) allows you to apply buffs to yourself (press the right trigger) or debuffs to enemies (left trigger).

Visual cues determine what buffs or debuffs are applied based on how much of the circle you scan:
– Less than half filled: grants you stamina boost or reduces enemy attack.
– Half or more filled: provides a bigger stamina boost and stronger attack reduction on enemies.
– Fully filled: enemies also get a defense debuff, and you can perform a parry within a two-second window by simply receiving their attack. Keep in mind, you can’t apply Analyze effects to both allies and enemies simultaneously; you must choose which to target. While using Analyze, you’re vulnerable—dodging is recommended if attacked.

You can also make Analyze applicable to allies if you have specific relics. The effects depend on the level of scanning:
– Partial circles grant minor buffs/debuffs.
– Full circles cause stronger effects, including a chance to parry enemy attacks.

### Ultimate Art: Communion – Taboo Knowledge
Scholar’s Ultimate Art is Communion: Taboo Knowledge. It functions as an area-of-effect (AoE) spell that marks all nearby allies and enemies. Allies will heal each time they heal themselves, while enemies take linked damage—hitting one damages all linked enemies by 20%. This can be highly effective against groups or boss fights with multiple enemies.

While using this UA, Scholar is invulnerable for a few seconds. Use it close to allies and enemies to maximize its benefits.

### The Best Weapons for Scholar
Scholar’s stats show Arcane as his only S attribute. His preferred weapons are thrusting swords, such as the Eleonora Poleblade. Not many weapons scale with Arcane, but boosting your status effects is key; weapons that cause Blood Loss, Frostbite, Scarlet Rot, or Poison become more powerful.

Remember, your focus isn’t on dealing huge damage but supporting teammates. If you want to optimize your build, consider weapons like:
– Antspur Rapier (for Blood Loss)
– Frozen Needle (for Frostbite)
– Eleonora Poleblade (for Blood Loss)

Using these weapons in combination with Scholar’s passive effects can enhance your effectiveness in battle.

### Relics Suitable for Scholar
Completing Scholar’s Remembrance Quest is important to receive relics with special buffs. After finishing Chapter 5, you’ll gain Cleansing Tear, a relic that boosts damage negation, increases your Art gauge when defeating enemies, and deals continuous damage to trapped enemies during your Ultimate Art.

When the quest is completed, you also get Note “My Dear Successor”, a relic that reduces your skill cooldowns and allows you to buff allies after analyzing them. Using this relic on analyzed allies increases their damage output.

For your third relic slot, options include:
– Augur’s relic: Heals allies when you use flasks and shares effects with nearby allies.
– The Grand Drizzly Scene relic: A cheaper alternative if the full relic isn’t acquired yet, especially if you haven’t defeated the related boss.

Additional relics focus on starting items like Poison or Blood Loss boosts. For example, completing the Sentiest Pest expedition grants the Nightlord’s relic, which provides Poison at the start of the game.

### Tips for Playing as Scholar
During early gameplay, be cautious. Scholar is primarily a support character. Instead of rushing to destroy everything, focus on assisting allies and controlling the battle. While you won’t be able to attack during Analyze, dodging is still possible and vital.

Re-activating Analyze quickly can preserve some progress on enemy analysis, but this effect depletes fast unless you have relics that slow its drain. Save your Ultimate Art for tough enemies or bosses with powerful, unpredictable moves. Its invulnerability makes it ideal for avoiding damage and status effects.

Be strategic in timing your abilities for maximum support and survivability.
