With the release of Borderlands 4, a new group of Vault Hunters steps into the spotlight. Each of the four characters is distinctive, equipped with three different skill trees and special augmentations to enhance their abilities. Figuring out where to begin can be overwhelming, but we’ll give you a comprehensive overview—starting with Amon, the Forgeknight.
He is a formidable character, primarily serving as a tank. His size and strength make him a heavy hitter and a sponge for damage. While he may be slower than other characters due to his bulk, customizing his build can optimize his performance in combat.
Each of Amon’s skill trees concentrates on a different gameplay aspect. You can freely combine skills and abilities, but some combinations naturally work better together. Below is an outline of each skill tree, highlighting what to prioritize and the best experiences to pair with each build. Remember, customization is essential, and no two builds are exactly alike.
Amon Skill Trees
Skill Tree | Focus | Recommended Use | Best For | Key Features |
---|---|---|---|---|
Vengeance | Defense & Cryo | Focuses on Cryo Attunement; uses shield to defend and attack | Campaign | Enhances cryo effects, adds damage to Forgewaves, boosts shields |
Calamity | Offense & Incendiary | Emphasizes passive skills, transforms Amon into chaos with incendiary damage | Solo | Melee-focused, quick enemy clearance, versatile weapon compatibility |
Cybernetics | Balance & Range | Combines fire and ice, boosts ranged attacks, supports fast-paced combat | Multiplayer | Wide attack range, elemental versatility, fast movement |
Campaign Build for Amon
This build, called “Vengeance,” centers on durability, with a focus on Cryo power. Use your shield to block and retaliate against enemies while dealing with them in combat. Prioritizing the Vengeance skill tree improves your defensive capabilities and Cryo affinity, making Amon resilient against the toughest foes. Shield and barrier enhancements keep damage at bay, allowing you to absorb hits longer. Invest in passive skills like Blastchill to boost your damage and explode effects. For co-op play, switch to Cryonic Thrum to taunt enemies and heal allies through Cryo Pulses. Around level 17, select Eternal Winter to intensify firewall damage, summoning stronger Forgewaves that do not consume Vengeance points. Finish with Ring of Frostfire, which delivers dual-element damage—dealing Incendiary inside the ring and Cryo from outside—while leveraging Maliwan weapons capable of swapping elements for optimal damage output.
Solo Build for Amon
Known as “Calamity Amon,” this aggressive approach involves close combat and fire-based attacks. Maximize Onslaughter skills to quickly dispatch bosses and enemies. Use melee attacks heavily, and rely on skills like Metal Urge to reduce cooldowns and keep Onslaughter active longer. Focus on Augments like Pyroclast to extend Onslaughter’s duration and increase damage. For burst damage, equip Augments like Force of Nature and Fulminating Fist—these can turn enemies against each other or inflict status effects for maximum impact. Ultimate skills such as Hoarcleave, which transforms Molten Slam into an area-based Cryo attack, help freeze enemies and wipe out groups efficiently. This build excels in solo scenarios where quick, destructive combat is essential.
Multiplayer Build for Amon
Dedicated to support and damage, this build centers around the Cybernetics tree with an emphasis on speed and elemental balance. Focus on the Crucible Action Skill, stacking elemental bonuses and quick attacks to keep pressure on enemies. Prioritize reload speed and gun damage to maximize firepower, while utilizing Augments like Endless War to boost damage on primed enemies or Searing Cold to freeze enemies on impact. Use high-quality Jakobs firearms and shotguns with elemental swapping capabilities to amplify critical hits and freeze or ignite enemies rapidly. This mode supports team play by disrupting enemy formations and managing crowds efficiently.
Key Skills for Amon
For each specialization, certain skills stand out:
- Vengeance Focused: Wrath of Nature (increase cryo effectiveness), Bloodlust (damage and health regen), Metal Urge (reduce cooldowns), Ring of Frostfire (dual damage and crowd control).
- Calamity Focused: Onslaughter (melee devastator), Bloodlust, Metal Urge, Hoarcleave (massive Cryo wave), and damage augment skills like Berserk and Bloodlust.
- Cybernetics Focused: Discombobulate (critical hit boost), Lightning Rod (shock damage), Into The Fray (damage based on proximity), Storm Surge (shock damage and shield interactions), and Critical Damage increases.
Choosing the right skills and augments tailored to your preferred gameplay style will make Amon a versatile and powerful character, whether you’re running solo, supporting allies, or storming through campaigns.
