Blue Protocol: Star Resonance offers a lot of activities, which can sometimes make it hard to decide what to focus on. Luckily, the game provides several classes that help players succeed, based on their experience with MMOs and different character types.
The Frost Mage is one of the easier classes to play. We’ll explain its mechanics clearly so both beginners and experienced players can maximize their effectiveness. Trying out a new class is always okay, especially if it looks appealing or if you want to test its mechanics. Here’s what you need to know to excel as a Frost Mage.
Frost Mage Class Overview
The Frost Mage specializes in using Ice Energy to cast powerful spells against enemies. This energy regenerates naturally over time, but there are skills to boost this process. Additionally, you need to understand Frost Crystal mechanics, which allow you to skip lengthy casting times and increase damage output.
Since Frost Crystals are limited in number, always keep space open to gather new charges instead of wasting them. Ice Cores offer crowd control and damage-over-time effects, further enhancing your combat capabilities.
Note: Both skill trees and Ice Cores can be used to manage overwhelming foes, regardless of your chosen build.
If you’re unsure about which path to take, focus first on mastering core skills before choosing a specific build. Some important skills to prioritize include:
- Ultimate: Use Glacier Hymn to create an Ice Domain that knocks back enemies. A comet crashes through, causing magic damage and freezing foes. While within the domain, you restore Ice Energy and trigger Ultra Cold, making all enemies frozen regardless of their status.
- Basic Attack: Your quick, water-based attack deals instant damage and starts with 50 Ice Energy, regenerating two points per second during casting. It’s good for dealing damage between cooldowns.
- Crystal Veil: Launch a slow-moving water orb that grants a Frost Crystal when summoned. Your crystals increase over time as the orb attacks nearby enemies with magic damage. If Ultra Cold is active, the orb freezes and explodes, dealing extra damage.
- Frost Shelter: Encase yourself in ice, becoming immune to damage but immobile. It deals magic damage to nearby enemies and applies a slowing effect that can turn into frozen if left untreated.
- Maelstrom: Summon a water vortex that damages enemies over time. The vortex also recovers Ice Energy with each hit, especially when Ultra Cold is active, freezing and exploding to deal more damage.
Ice Crystal Specialization
This build focuses on skills like Frost Lance, Meteor Storm, and Blizzard, which all utilize Ice Energy and Frost Crystals to maximize damage and control.
- Frost Lance: Consumes 10 Ice Energy to throw a lance that’s fully chargeable with a Frost Crystal, increasing damage by 20% if skipped.
- Meteor Storm: Uses 5 Ice Energy to summon three meteors above the enemy, damaging surrounding foes upon impact. Has up to two charges.
- Blizzard: After a short chant, consumes 20 Ice Energy to summon a storm that continuously damages enemies within range.
Frostbeam Specialization
This path emphasizes focused, high-damage beams and water vortex control.
- Frostbeam: Uses 15 Ice Energy to deal a continuous beam of ice damage in a line. The longer it stays active, the more damage it accumulates. Haste increases firing speed.
- Permafrost: Generates Ice Energy over time, increasing attack and casting speed. Best used when you’re not close to full Ice Energy.
- Tidepool: Summons a tidal vortex that damages enemies and channels for up to five seconds, exploding and freezing when Ultra Cold is active.
- Maelstrom: Similar to the previous build, summoning a vortex for continuous damage and Ice Energy recovery.
Best Talent Nodes for Frost Mage
Talents are crucial for defining your playstyle. The talent tree has nodes that boost stats like Ice Attack, Endurance, and Intellect, alongside specific enhancements such as Ice Revelation (which grants a chance to freeze on special attacks), cooldown reductions, and damage boosts.
Key talent options include:
- Increasing Ice Attack and Intellect for more damage and magical power.
- Enhancing Ice Core features to improve damage and Frost Crystal generation.
- Improving cooldowns and energy caps to optimize casting efficiency.
- Boosting special attack damage and AoE effects like Frost Explosion triggered by Ice Cores.
Optimal Frost Mage Gear
Gear should complement your focus on magic and critical stats. Prioritize armor and accessories that boost:
- Intellect: To enhance spell power.
- Crit and Versatility: To increase damage output and overall effectiveness.
- Mastery: To improve your weapon’s damage scaling.
Recommended gear examples:
- Helmet: Wane Feltcap (boosts armor, intellect, endurance)
- Armor: Wane Skirmishwear (same stat boosts)
- Weapon: Everfrost Staff (increases magic attack, intellect, and endurance)
- Accessories: Wane Zircon Earrings, Necklace, Ring, and Bracelets (all increasing intellect and endurance)
Matching your armor and weapon choices with your spell priorities will ensure you stay safe while maximizing your damage potential in combat.
