Crimson Desert gives you the freedom to do almost anything you can think of, including acting like Robin Hood and stealing from the wealthy to give to the less fortunate—or yourself. However, being a thief is a tricky task, and you’ll need the right gear to pull off your crimes. Here’s how to get ready.
Whether you’re planning a bank heist to get some extra silver or trying to pickpocket the snooty nobles strolling around Hernand, this guide covers everything you need to know about stealing.
How to Steal Items
To start stealing, you first need to dress the part of a criminal. Before you begin your crime spree—like nicking gold bars from nobles to share with the poor—you’ll need the proper equipment.
-
A Mask
ADVERTISEMENT- You can get a mask from Bleed Bandits or buy one from merchants like Grimrak in Hernand’s alleyways southeast of the church.
-
The Great Thief’s Gloves (Optional)
- These are not mandatory, but they make stealing much easier and eliminate the risk of getting caught. They allow you to steal freely once every 30 minutes.
First, put the mask in your inventory and then equip it via your equipment wheel. Remove your helmet if you’re wearing one so you can see your face and confirm the mask is on.
Once your mask is equipped, approach an item and hold the appropriate button (like LB or L1) to target it. If the item can be stolen, a prompt will appear, allowing you to take it. Just make sure no one sees you. If you’re caught, a red circle will appear around you, alerting guards and witnesses.
If caught, you should run away quickly to avoid getting fined or jailed. Wearing the Great Thief’s Gloves prevents this, letting you steal any item freely once every 30 minutes.
How to Pickpocket NPCs
Picking the pocket of an NPC isn’t as easy as just wearing a mask and pressing the steal button. First, you need to trigger the ‘pickpocket’ option.
Approach an NPC and bump into them while wearing your mask. If successful, a brief window of two to three seconds will open in which you can pick their pocket. If all you see is a ‘greet’ option, try bumping into them again.
Targeting nobles is your best bet, as they often carry more valuable items and might even have a gold bar on hand. It’s smarter to focus on isolated individuals or distracted groups, especially at night, when there are fewer witnesses. This makes it easier to slip away if you get caught without a hefty fine.
A good tip is to use your lantern to shine light on NPCs. This reveals what they have on them to steal, saving you time hunting for the right targets.
Head to places like Lioncrest Manor in Hernand or anywhere nobles gather—these are prime spots to find the best targets for stealing.
