There are several named bosses in Grounded 2, and you likely encountered a few of these rare enemies while heading to the Ominent Facility during the story. However, one of the most dangerous foes you’ll face is the Cockroach Queen, which lives in the Toxic Anthill in the northwest part of Brookhollow Park.
Aside from the boss, you’ll have a tough journey through the tunnels of this hazardous Anthill, battling ants and roaches along the way. Be ready to handle multiple enemies and deal with fiery Sizzling damage during the Cockroach Queen fight.
This Cockroach Queen isn’t the same as the O.R.C. Cockroach Queen, who is located inside the facility under the Statue of Dr. Tully.
Where to Find the Cockroach Queen
To locate the Cockroach Queen, go to the northern part of the Snackbar Front, near the Picnic Table area. Before reaching the boundary, you’ll find a green spray can marking the entrance to the Toxic Anthill, home to a large number of dangerous Red Ant Soldiers and the Cockroach Queen.
Once inside the cave, you’ll be out of the toxic gas, though you still can wear a Gas Mask to avoid taking damage.
Enter the tunnels and turn left, then continue moving north until you encounter a massive cockroach blocking your way. Defeat this enemy and proceed straight ahead to find tunnels filled with toxic water.
Jump from one patch of land to another to avoid the dangerous, contaminated water. Along the path, you’ll see several Cockroach Nymphs, which indicates you’re headed in the right direction.
Keep moving north until you reach a large, arena-like room where the Cockroach Queen is waiting. As soon as she spots you, she will attack, so be prepared for a fight.
How to Defeat the Cockroach Queen
Once in the arena, you’ll face the giant version of a regular Cockroach, which is much more deadly. The moment she notices you, she’ll rush toward you with aggressive attacks.
If you play as a Mage or Ranger, you can attack her from a high perch above the arena, although this method will take longer to reduce her health. Fighters are well-suited for this battle, but Rogues will find it challenging unless you keep dodging and avoid fighting her head-on, leveraging your powerful mutations.
If you’ve brought a Buggy, it will be crucial to this fight, as it can attract her attention and give you time to heal or continue dealing damage.
Avoid her charge attacks, especially when she starts flailing wildly after losing her head, which triggers an enraged mode for all Cockroach enemies when her health gets low. Be patient, wait for her to miss her attacks, then capitalize on these openings to hit her repeatedly until she’s defeated.
What Rewards Do You Get From the Cockroach Queen?
After defeating her, collect the remains and prepare to claim your prize. Use your Tier Two Omni-Axe to break through the Mushroom Walls on the northern side of the main fight room. From there, you can take the Gloom Skewer, which protrudes from the floor in the center of the room.
The Gloom Skewer is a special item similar to the Larvalance but has the Gaping Wound perk. This perk reduces enemy insect resistance to stabbing damage by ten percent for ten seconds, making future battles easier.
