To help you experience the fantasy of a Wuxia world, Where Winds Meet offers plenty of dramatic moments and exaggerated characters, balanced with sincerity and humor. Wuxia wouldn’t be complete without some physics-defying moves, and that’s where Grand Lightness Skills come into play. They essentially allow you to fly around the world.
Each Grand Lightness Skill features a flashy, over-the-top animation and camera angles. With them, you can cover a lot of distance quickly. However, before you can use these skills, you need to unlock them. But unlocking isn’t enough—you also need the Afterglow Pendant, the final item to enable you to zip across the map like an arrow in flight.
How to Start the Afterglow Side Quest
The quest begins just outside of Heaven’s Pier, down the southern coast. You’ll see some boats out in the water and a man standing near the shore, gazing at them. This is a Lost Chapter quest, indicated by a blue icon on the map. Talk to the Old Fisherman to learn about his mastery of Grand Lightness skills, especially Meteor Flight. He won’t give away his skill easily; you’ll need to prove you’re worthy.
Completing the Old Fisherman’s Challenges
The fisherman’s challenge involves reaching his boat without touching the water. His boat is out in the water, and you must get there without stepping into the sea. Luckily, he sets up a series of floating jars in the water, creating a path to his boat. Jump from jar to jar without falling into the water. The jars tend to pull you toward them thanks to their stickiness, but you still need to be careful not to walk off or you will have to start over.
Remember that you have a triple jump and can dash once while in the air, which can help you land on the jars more easily. When you reach the boat, the fisherman, impressed by your jump, hands you his spear and manual. The manual explains how to use Meteor Flight, though he hints you’ll need more than just technique to master it.
Unlocking the Afterglow Pendant
After a rough flight ending in a splashdown, you return to the shore where the fisherman awaits. The pendant he mentioned is called the Afterglow Pendant. He claims it was marked on your map and can be found in the Palace of Annals, but that’s false. Instead, the pendant is an Exploration Reward for the Qinghe region. Once you reach Exploration Level 4 in Qinghe, you’ll get the Afterglow Pendant, which lets you use Grand Lightness skills freely there. You gain Exploration Experience from completing quests, gathering items, filling out collections, and more.
Once you have the pendant, you won’t need to complete the entire quest again to use Grand Lightness skills. You can use them anytime in Qinghe, but the pendant only grants access there. To use skills in other regions, like Kaifeng, you’ll need to obtain the region’s specific Grand Lightness item.
How to Use Grand Lightness Skills
Unlocking the pendant makes traveling and exploration much faster. While the world remains full of surprises and objectives, Grand Lightness skills make traveling between them easier. To activate a skill, hold down the jump button, which launches you into the air. A HUD element appears at the bottom of the screen, filling up gradually. Tap the jump button again as the indicator reaches each circle to keep flying. You can also end the flight early by clicking the left thumbstick, performing a Mighty Drop to land directly below you.
You can customize the camera settings for Grand Lightness skills if the default choreography feels awkward or distracting. Every Grand Lightness Skill works the same way but features different animations. You choose which one to equip from the Mystic Arts menu. Keep in mind that all skills need to be unlocked separately, so initially, you’ll probably stick with Meteor Flight.
Use these skills often during your adventures, especially in crowded areas or when completing quests that require quick map traversal. They’re designed to make your journey feel more dynamic and exciting.
