Grounded 2’s latest update introduces a new dangerous creature in Brookhollow Park, along with new items you can craft, like Serpent Armor. This armor is only available to players brave enough to hunt down the largest animal in the game so far—the Garter Snake.
This long, orange snake moves through parts of the park and is covered in shiny, desirable scales. If you’re tough enough to confront this creature, here’s what you need to know about locating the snake, collecting its scales, and crafting your own Serpent Armor.
How to Find the Garter Snake and Its Scales
Currently, the Garter Snake can be found only in one area of the park map, but it might appear in other parts of Brookhollow later on. For now, it slithers through long patches of grass near Croquet Court, specifically south of the croquet set.
The snake is aggressive, so avoid its head as it can strike quickly and send you flying. Instead, focus on its body where the scales are located. As the snake moves past you, jump onto its back. Once on, the snake will speed up and try to throw you off by flipping its body upward. During this time, you must dodge obstacles and hold on tight to gather its scales.
Snake scales stick out along the snake’s back and can be harvested with a Tier 3 hammer tool. Collecting enough scales allows you to unlock new recipes for crafting armor and other items.
Rare Trinket Drop
While riding the snake, there’s a chance to obtain a special Trinket recipe called the Bale Scale. It grants the Candy Overlord effect, boosting your staff attacks’ damage based on their candy element. This effect stacks up to five times and remains active until you switch weapons or leave the fight.
How to Craft Snake Scale Items and Armor
You can use Snake Scales in numerous crafting recipes for armor and building components. To unlock these recipes, place a Snake Scale into the Resource Analyzer, which will reveal items like:
- Serpent Hood
- Serpent Mail
- Serpent Boots
- Scale Roof and parts
- Various roof and gable designs
Once unlocked, craft these items at your workbench.
Crafting the Serpent Armor
The Serpent Armor set includes a Hood, Mail, and Boots. To make each piece, you’ll need ingredients such as Snake Scales, Firefly Shells, Glow Goo, and Lint Rope.
Ingredients Needed:
| Ingredient | Where to Find |
|---|---|
| Firefly Shell | Remains of Fireflies in the environment |
| Glow Goo | Derived from Firefly remains |
| Lint | Found on the doormat in the Shed or in pink insulation at the Undershed |
| Lint Rope | Crafted at the Spinning Wheel from Lint |
Crafting the Armor:
Gather all required resources, then combine them on the workbench. Wearing the Serpent Armor grants the following effects:
- Serpent Hood: Enhances Candy Stave charge time with a chance to quicken attacks.
- Serpent Mail: Adds a chance to stack bonuses on the third hit of your Candy Stave combo.
- Serpent Boots: Increases damage during Chain Devastation effects, stacking damage bonuses with each third hit.
Snake Scale Roof Recipes
Snake Scales are also used to craft various roof pieces, including:
- Scale Roof
- Roof Corner
- Interior Roof
- Flat and Triangular Roofs
- Gable and Half Flat Roofs
- Quarter and Quarter Flat Roofs
These are built using a combination of Snake Scales, Wooden Splinters, and Rust, depending on the piece.
Summary
Hunting the Garter Snake is a challenging task, but the rewards are worth the effort. Gathering its scales allows you to craft powerful armor and building materials, while a rare Trinket can give you a significant edge in combat. Collect the necessary resources, stay alert for attacks, and you’ll be able to enhance your gear and defenses in Grounded 2.
