How to Collect Relics in The King Is Watching
The Graveyard area in The King Is Watching isn’t just filled with new enemies and bosses. It also offers Cemetery Relics, which you can trade for extra troops, upgrades, and special items that you can’t find in the Village. Managing this area is a bit more work, but it’s definitely worth the effort.
If you’re new to the Graveyard, it’s helpful to understand what you can do with Relics so that you can plan your strategy. You can improve your existing tactics or unlock the power of the undead!
How to Get Relics
The main way to earn Relics is by recruiting Ruin Scouts. These scouts are sent to dig sites around the battlefield to retrieve Relics. Similar to the Peasant Hut, at the start of each playthrough, you get two blueprints for Ruin Scout buildings. This means you can recruit up to four Scouts in total. Remember, don’t sell these blueprints.
After training, Ruin Scouts wait until you choose one of the four ruins (located at each corner of the battlefield) to excavate. You can switch the target ruin at any time or recall the Scouts back to the castle walls by clicking on the currently exploring ruin. Keep in mind, the Scouts take time to travel and work on the ruins.
All your Ruin Scouts travel and work as a group; you cannot split them between different sites. The more Scouts working together, the faster the excavation will be.
Each ruin offers different rewards, usually a Spell, Artifact, or Relic. Sometimes you might get a Building Upgrade. Once a ruin is excavated, it will respawn after some time. It’s a good idea to send your Scouts to different sites in the meantime.
Important Things to Know About Ruin Scouts
- Despite being trained in the city, Ruin Scouts are temporary units, so you’ll need to retrain them after their timers run out.
- Ruin Scouts don’t count towards your troop limit. However, you can’t deploy them to the battlefield or call them out if you’ve reached your limit. To bypass this, send a soldier to the Barracks, spawn your Scouts, and then bring the soldier back out.
- They won’t join your main army in fights but will defend themselves if attacked, especially if they’re at the rightmost ruins or if your army is defeated near the castle. Keep in mind, Ruin Scouts are weaker than Peasants and unlikely to save the day.
Tip: If Scouts are at a right-side ruin, recall or move them to the left before a new enemy wave arrives to prevent losses. It’s less efficient but safer. The right-side ruins usually offer larger Relic rewards.
How to Spend Relics
Relics can be exchanged at the Cemetery Trader, who arrives every time you get a new Prophecy. She functions similarly to the Wandering Trader but only accepts Relics, not Denarii.
Interestingly, the game treats Relics as resources—probably because you can recruit Mummies with them (see below). So, any time you gain rewards for all resources, Relics are included too!
The Cemetery Trader offers three rows of items for trade, with two rows being unique to her.
Undead Troops
The top row lets you recruit powerful undead soldiers. These are one-time mercenaries; once they’re gone, they’re gone. They’re useful for extra strength or if you have buffs and healing to support them, but relying on them too much can be risky.

Graveyard Buildings
The middle row of the trader’s offerings includes blueprints for unique Graveyard buildings:
- Ancient Pit: Produces Relics in your city automatically, every 20 seconds on standard speed, so you don’t need to send Scouts out.
- Crypt: Acts as a special Barracks that produces Mummies, powerful Undead Champions with 500 HP and 42 DPS, costing 5 Relics each.
Keep in mind, the Cemetery Trader stocks limited blueprints, and multiple copies increase in price. You can only buy up to two Ancient Pits and three Crypts in each playthrough.
Upgrades and Town Denarii
Like the Wandering Trader, the Cemetery Trader offers Building Upgrades. Additionally, you can buy Town Denarii directly from her, using Relics. While this isn’t the best way to spend Relics, it can be useful if a run is ending and you want extra coins for upgrades afterward.
