Money doesn’t grow on trees in Discounty, so it’s best to save whenever you can and spend wisely. There will be times when you need thousands of Shills in your pocket to move forward in the story. If you don’t want to wait around grinding daily to earn money, you’ll want some quick and simple ways to make cash.
In the early chapters of Discounty, it can be frustrating because you often have to spend money to make money. Here are some helpful tips and tricks for earning more Shills in the game.
## How To Make Money Quickly In Discounty
The currency in Discounty is called Shills. Customers pay you with Shills, which you then spend on products and decorations for your store. Running a supermarket requires spending money to make money, as you’ll need to buy items to sell.
There will be moments when you are asked to spend thousands of Shills—once to show you’re running a proper supermarket, and again as a donation to the town. So how can you save up this money quickly?
### Save Your Shills
It’s tempting to visit Antics Antiques and spend your hard-earned cash on pretty crystals and colorful wallpaper. But if you’re serious about saving, it’s better to hold off on decorating until later in the game. Decorative items don’t add practical value to your store. Instead, invest in posters, shelves, and Boosters to encourage customers to spend more Shills.
### Become A Marketing Genius
Using marketing tools like posters, Boosters, vendor stands, and upgraded shelves can help attract more customers and boost sales. Customers usually come in wanting specific items, but you can tempt them into impulse buys by creating a welcoming and varied layout. The more display variety and spacing you have, the more likely customers will pick up items they hadn’t planned to buy.
Advertising your store and vendors with posters can also draw attention. If you sell expensive stock, it can be smart to promote the vendor who supplies it. Place their goods near their vendor stand (which becomes available after upgrading the trade deal), and watch your sales increase rapidly.
### Recycle Your Trash
Aunt Tellar suggests an early opportunity to earn extra money by picking up cans and bottles on the ground. Handing these over at the Recycling Center can be surprisingly profitable if you do it daily during your rounds in town.
Another recycling tip involves your boxes. You can sell them at the Recycling Center to make some money while keeping your store room organized. Use the machine in the Discounty office to break down boxes in groups of three. Alternatively, taking individual boxes to the recycling center also yields good returns, sometimes even more cash.
### Don’t Overfill the Store Room
You typically only need two full boxes of each product in the store room when the shelves on the shop floor are stocked. Keep a close eye on your spending—if you already have a full box of a product, there’s no need to buy more. Use the Discounty computer to monitor stock levels. When stock drops below 20 units, it’s a good idea to order more.
For vendor stock, watch the store room manually, as these levels are not tracked by the computer.
### Keep The C.A.R. High
Your weekly customer approval rating (C.A.R.) reflects how well you’re satisfying shoppers each day. Customers may react with hearts if you’re doing a great job, smiling if they’re okay, or anger if they’re frustrated.
Strive to keep your customers happy so they leave with full shopping bags and joyful reactions. A high C.A.R. means more customers will return the next day, leading to increased sales.
