Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion allows you to learn new skills by collecting and activating Factors, which are genetic mutations caused by exposure to Femto. The system is introduced all at once, which can be overwhelming, but don’t worry—we’re here to help.
This guide explains everything about the mutation lab and how to use it. It also offers tips for gaining the skills you want without collecting too many costly mutations.
How to Get Factors
Factors are obtained after defeating the first Immortal boss, Hypnos. From then on, any Immortals you defeat may drop Factors, which you can process back at your base. Here are some key points about Factor drops:
- Only Immortals drop Factors; human and robotic enemies do not.
- Not every Immortal will drop a Factor, and each Immortal type drops specific ones. Bosses tend to drop the rarest and most powerful Factors, but this means you often have to choose between a good Factor and other rewards.
- You can find out which Factors are dropped by different Immortal species in the Factor Compendium at the lab.
- Sometimes, an Immortal will drop a Compound Factor, which contains multiple Factors. This helps you fill out your genome quickly, but keep in mind that Compound Factors can’t be broken apart. If you delete or drop one, everything inside goes with it.
You can only hold a limited number of Factors. Increase this limit by spending Scrap to upgrade the lab. If you try to loot a Factor that doesn’t fit in your genome, you’ll need to drop one you already have. The only way to remove Factors once you’ve collected them is to activate the genome, which uses up your Factors and learns the skills associated with that combination.
Factor Type and Level
Factors come in three colors—green, pink, and yellow—and each has a rank indicated by Roman numerals. To learn a skill, both the type and rank of a Factor must match the requirement. Higher-ranked Factors unlock more powerful skills, including upgraded versions of lower-ranked skills. You can’t substitute a higher-rank Factor for a lower one.
Skill Fusion
Activating your current genome costs 1,000 credits per Factor used and clears all Factors from your inventory. Every skill in the game is linked to a specific combination of Factors. When you activate Skill Fusion and the Factors in your genome match a skill’s pattern, you permanently learn that skill. Once learned, it can be equipped at the lab.
You can view the list of available skills at the lab to help decide which Factors to pursue. Once you’ve acquired some basic skills, focus on the ones you want most and grind for those, rather than collecting random Factors.
Mutation
As you learn more skills, your character’s body will mutate. Initially, mutations appear as strange markings, but they can eventually develop into features like stony armor. These mutations don’t affect gameplay but can change your appearance. To revert your mutations, you can choose the Revert Body option at the lab. This process is costly and becomes more expensive with each mutation, but it resets your appearance to the original look.
Reverting your body will also delete all the skills you’ve learned, meaning you’ll need to find fresh Factors and fuse them again. Alternatively, you can keep your mutations and customize their colors using the Edit Appearance feature.
Skill Types
Skills must be equipped before use, which is done at the lab. There are three categories:
-
Weapon Actions (Blue): Assign one to each melee weapon type and one to firearms. When using a weapon, you can activate the assigned skill. Most melee skills are flexible and can be assigned to multiple weapon types, and you can assign the same skill to different weapons if you prefer.
-
General Actions (Orange): You have one slot for a special skill, which usually consumes stamina or Femto. Using it wisely can greatly influence the outcome of battle.
-
Passives (Green): These skills provide passive abilities or buffs that are always active while equipped. They have a level, and your total skill levels are limited by your lab capacity. Upgrading the lab increases this capacity, allowing more Passives to be equipped.
