Hytale, created by Hypixel Studios, is a game inspired by Minecraft. It started as a project inside Minecraft and has since added new progression systems, gameplay features, and a look that is similar but still unique.
Like other games in this category, Hytale allows players to add mods that significantly change the gaming experience. The good news is that Hytale naturally supports mods, making it easier to install them right from the start. However, there are some important things to keep in mind to ensure they work properly. Follow this guide to learn how to install mods in Hytale.
Hytale is still in Early Access, so how mods function and their compatibility might change later. We will update this guide if needed.
How To Install Mods
First, find a mod you want to try. Visit CurseForge.com, which has over 2,000 mods available for Hytale. Once you find a mod you like, you generally have two options for installing it: using the CurseForge app or doing it manually. Here are both methods:
How To Use The CurseForge App
Using the CurseForge app is the easiest way to download and manage mods. Download it from the official website here. After downloading, open the .exe file and install it. Select a folder for installing (the default is fine), and you can skip features like a recording option if you don’t need it.
After installing, CurseForge will open automatically. You should see your installed games and some recommendations. If you already have Hytale installed, it will be detected automatically.
Next, pick a mod to install. For example, try EyeSpy by DarkhaxDev, which adds more info about items and locations in your world. Visit the mod’s page and click “Install via App.” The app will download and install the mod automatically. If your browser prompts for permissions to open links, allow it.
You can also install mods directly from the app’s “Browse” tab. Search for the mods you want and click install from there.
How To Install Mods Manually
If you prefer not to use a mod manager, you can install mods manually. Usually, this involves downloading a .jar or .zip file from the mod page. For example, on EyeSpy’s page, select “Download File Manually” (next to “Install via App”). Download the file, unzip if necessary, and then place the mod file into your mods folder. The default location is often something like:
Disk\User[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\Hytale\UserData\Mods
If you get a zip file, unzip it first before copying the contents into the Mods folder.
How To Use Mods
Mods are not enabled automatically. When creating or joining a world, you need to activate the mods manually. This means hosting a world that uses your selected mods so that others can play with them, even if they don’t have the mods installed.
To activate mods, right-click the world you want to use and choose “Edit Settings.” Look for a section labeled “Mods.” If the mods were installed successfully, you’ll see your list of mods there. Check the box next to each mod you want to activate, then save the settings. Your mods will now be active in that world.
You can also create a new world with mods enabled. When setting up a new world, click the settings icon next to “Create World,” and you’ll see the same mods menu. Select your preferred mods, and your new world will be set up with those mods activated.
