Mods let players change or improve their favorite games by adding new features or making gameplay easier or more accessible. For My Winter Car, mods can help reduce the difficulty, especially if the game’s challenging mechanics become frustrating.
While some may prefer the game’s original tight mechanics, others might want to customize their experience or make survival less tough. This guide explains how to add mods to My Winter Car, so you can enjoy features that suit your playstyle.
How to Install Mods
First, select a mod you want to install. Visit Nexus Mods to browse available options. Currently, there are over 180 mods for the game.
Most mods can be installed in a similar way, regardless of their specific instructions. For example, let’s look at the Noclip by ongk mod, which allows you to fly freely around the game, saving time on travel. You can download it here.
Step 1: Download the Mod Loader
Download BepInEx, a popular mod loader, from this link: https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx/releases/download/v5.4.23.4/BepInEx_win_x64_5.4.23.4.zip. This ZIP file contains four files and one folder. Extract all of these into the folder where your game is installed.
Tip: If you installed the game via Steam, it might be in a location like C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\My Winter Car.
Step 2: Launch the Game Once
Open Steam and launch the game. It will start to run but may not fully load because it’s creating some necessary files. If the game doesn’t open completely, don’t worry.
Next, locate the BepInEx.cfg file in the game folder. Open it with a text editor like Notepad. Scroll to the section under [Preloader.Entrypoint] and find the line that says Type = Application. Change this to read Type = MonoBehaviour. Save the file.
(See the screenshot below for help with editing the config file)
Note: The file might look like this after editing:
[Preloader.Entrypoint]
Type = MonoBehaviour
Step 3: Install the Mod
Download the specific mod file, such as Noclip, from Nexus Mods using this link: https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/ModRequirementsPopUp?id=5&game_id=8597. After downloading, locate the DLL file (like Noclip.dll) and copy it into the BepInEx\plugins or BepInEx\core folder within your game directory, depending on the mod’s instructions.
Most mods follow this same process—simply copying the DLL file into the appropriate folder. However, always check the instructions for each individual mod in case additional steps are required.
Once done, restart the game. The mod should now be active, and you can enjoy the new features or convenience it provides.
